“Happy Birthday!” Ayaka, Ayato Kazuha, and some other friends cheered. Y/n smiled brightly as tears welled up in her eyes. “Thank you everyone,” She replied. Kazuha walked up to embrace her, snuggling his head into the crook of her neck.

The girl blushed as she hugged him back, some giggling could be heard from the others behind them. They then pulled away, staring into each other’s eyes with fondness.

“Are you two love birds done? I wanna eat the cake already!” Thoma said jokingly as the two quickly looked away in embarrassment, making everyone laugh. Kazuha then mentally noted down a haiku.

Pulchritudinous

Her bright sparkling eyes

As bright as the Sun

He smiled to himself as motioned to her to go back into the estate with the others to enjoy some cake.

“This cake is amazing!” Ayaka commented. “Of course! It was made by me after all!” Thoma said teasingly with a grin making Ayato chuckle. Suddenly, a knock was heard coming from the door.

“I’ll get it!” Y/n said as she sauntered towards the door. As she opened the door, she audibly gasped. “Kokomi?! Aren’t you supposed to be back at Watatsumi Island?” Y/n asked in g worry.

“Yes. But, since it is your birthday, I’ve taken a short break to visit my best friend!” She replied with a smile. “Thank you Kokomi,” Y/n said before embracing her dear friend.

“Please come in then!”

After the cake was eaten, Y/n
received gifts from everyone. Kokomi gave her a friendship bracelet she had made herself. Some presents were… questionable.

Kazuha then excused himself and Y/n to the garden behind the estate. “What did you want to tell me, Kazuha?” Y/n asked as she looked at him in anticipation.

“Ah, well,” He said before clearing his throat. “Once again, Happy Birthday Y/n.” He said softly as he took out a small box from his pocket and urged her to take it. Y/n took it gingerly as she said her thanks. She then opened it to see a locket. It had a maple leaf design on it.

The locket was a beautiful rose gold colour and it seemed rather expensive. “Kazuha, you shouldn’t have,” Y/n said as she looked up at him. “I wanted to. And I do have one myself” He replied as he smiled gently. Y/n sighed before smiling. “Thank you, Kazuha. I love it,”

“I’m glad then,” He whispered before embracing the girl. She hugged back and smiled, closing her eyes and relishing his warmth. Y/n’s thoughts then went to her parents, who had recently passed.

“Kazuha, are you sure that you are okay? Your clan is in decline and if everything takes a turn for the worse, you’d be the last one in your clan,” Y/n asked in concern as she cupped his cheek. “I’m going to be alright, Y/n,” Kazuha replied as he chuckled.

“If you need anything, please. Come over to the Kamisato Estate.” Y/n stated as she pulled her dear friend into a hug. He nodded in response and hugged her back tightly.

A few months later

Y/n was in the garden as usual, reading a book. Sitting on a mat she had laid down before. She breathed in the fresh air and sighed it out, feeling tranquil. As the birds sang and the soft, calm breeze, she could finally rest.

Being the eldest daughter under a commission was truly stressful. Having to deal with visitors and such. But she couldn’t compare the weight of responsibilities to her brother. After their parents passed, Ayato and Ayaka were busier than ever, not to mention Y/n too.

Even Kokomi had more duties to do. With most of her friends being busy, Y/n couldn’t help but feel lonely. Kazuha was the only one who had the most free time. He also seemed to be under a lot of stress due to his family’s decline, growing worse by the months.

A sudden rustle of leaves startled Y/n as she looked up from her book. She then sighed in relief and put a hand on her chest. “Kazuha, you scared me,” Kazuha only chuckled as he walked over to sit next to her.

Y/n smiled as she continued reading the book, making Kazuha pout. “Y/nnn pay attention to me,” He whined. Y/n laughed as she closed the book after marking the page she was reading.

“With the soft breeze and petals of sakura dancing in the wind, wouldn’t it be a wonderful day to go out for a walk?” Kazuha mused. “Still as poetic as ever, Kaedehara Kazuha,” Y/n teased as she giggled.

“Alright let’s go. There will be no need for me to keep the book and the mat as I intend to continue reading after this,” She stated with a smile. “Alright let’s go then, my lady” Kazuha agreed as he stood up and brought the girl up. “Kazuha! I told you to stop calling me that!”

As the two walked side by side together in Inazuma city, they walked past Kiminami Restaurant as Kiminami Anna greeted them. “Miss Kamisato! Lord Kaedehara! Out for a stroll in the city?” She inquired as she smiled politely.

“Indeed,” Kazuha replied politely after greeting her. “Wonderful! It is rather rare to see Miss Kamisato going out with a friend! So I am very happy that she has you with her,” Anna remarked with a closed-eyed smile.

Y/n only blushed in embarrassment. “Would you two like anything? It’s on the house!” Anna asked cheerfully. “Oh, no we couldn’t possibly-” “I’ll have two sets of tuna sushi please,” Kazuha said as Anna nodded. “Alright!”

“Kazuha, we should have-” “Shh when people offer you something, it would be rude not to accept it, no?” Kazuha remarked as he held his finger to her lips to silence her. Y/n blushed as she nodded sheepishly. Kazuha then smiled as he lowered his finger from her lips.

“Alright! Here is your tuna sushi!” Anna announced. “Thank you,” Kazuha replied as he gratefully took the sushi from her and bid Anna farewell before turning back to Y/n. “We can eat while we walk. Is there anywhere you want to go?”

“Oh! Well, we could make a stop at the Yae Publishing House!” Y/n suggested as her eyes lit up. Kazuha chuckled as he nodded his head. “Alright. Anything for you”

Those sorts of moments are short-lived, and precious. Such as a cherry blossom petal dancing in the wind, falling to the ground, and eventually withering away. They both cherished these moments very much.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
