The Rosemaries are a British indie pop band that formed in Leeds, United Kingdom in 1998. The duo consists of Amelia Moore (vocals, guitars, pianos) and Aiden Marshalls (drums, backing vocals). They used to be childhood friends and reunited again in Leeds College of Music by becoming classmates, bonded over Cocteau Twins, The Smiths, The Pastels, The Beatles, The Sundays, Heavenly, Ride and The Jesus and Mary Chain and shared their love for poetry, rom-com movies, C86 cassette tape, opera and Sarah Records. Their journey started from playing music around music pubs, clubs, venues, punk houses and do basement and garage shows to bigger festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Reading, Glastonbury, Leeds and more. The Rosemaries are also well-known around the Leeds music scene. They also bring the twee culture back in the new millennium and rejected anything related to futuristic trends of the 2000s. The band are known for their lo-fi aesthetic of their recordings, jangly guitars, Beatlesque harmonies, nostalgic rhythms, slower tempos, dreamlike experimentation, powerful drumming, ethereal vocals, orchestral composition and twee lyricism. Amelia often compared with Johnny Marr of her Rickenbacker 12-string guitar playing and Liz Frazer by her dreamy vocals while Aiden is often compared with Ride's Loz Colbert by his drumming. Around 1999, they got to sign to Fierce Panda Records in the UK and Slumberland Records in the US. The band earned commercial success from their second full-length album by the help of college radio, fanzines and John Peel sessions. The Rosemaries also become one of the artists who are always been replayed in radio stations. They also become one of the first bands to put out their whole discography, from demos, EPs and albums through BandCamp. Often associated with the Post-Britpop movement but they aren't a fully Britpop band.
