"No one is getting married."
With Namjoon's stern voice, you all fall silent. You haven't even let Mr. Kim's words sink in, and all you can seem to think about is the man in front of you, looming a shadow over you as he stands furiously from his seat.
"What are you saying Jun-seu?" You recognize your dad's voice without looking at him, and he's not scared to confront Namjoon's dad. His voice is unexpectedly cold as your mom holds unto his arm.
Namjoon's dad meets his gaze from across the table, and their eyes are enough to make you alert. This is far from what you imagined. You were right from the very start - this wouldn't end well for both families. You were from different social status, and your parents would never let anyone belittle the family name.
"We've talked about this...Iseul and I," the Chairman refer to Mrs. Kim who is already looking defeated by everyone's reaction. She expected a far more positive outcome. And all her hopes are beginning to die down.
"You've talked about this?" Namjoon raises his brows. He can't believe what he's hearing. "For what?"
"We thought about it... you know, business-wise. I'm sure Y/N thinks the same," Your eyes widen when he mentions your name. What does he even mean by that?
"S-sir, with all due respect, I don't understand what you're implying," you choke out, unable to hold back.
"You and my son..." the Chairman begins. "You get along well, and you've known each other for almost a decade. Iseul and I... we can see that you enjoy each other's company."
Your gaze shifts towards the sweet lady and she only offers an apologetic smile. "Dear, I apologize if this was too abrupt. I know it might be confusing at first, but please...think it over," her voice almost begs. Then she looks over to check Namjoon's stunned expression. She believes she is doing him a favor. "Namjoon is nearly 30 years old. I believe now is the best time to settle, and I wouldn't want anyone else besides my son but you, Y/N."
You're speechless. Are you supposed to be happy? Sad? Or should you be flattered to have someone's parents approve of you (if you hadn't been thrust into the spotlight by this unexpected news).
"Mom..." Seokjin can see your wavering eyes. He motions for Yaji and Inso to get off his lap and join the housemaids somewhere in the living room. Now that they're far from hearing your serious conversation, he continues, "Namjoon is old enough to make his own decisions about what is best for him. You both can't make decisions like this without discussing it with him first."
"And you can't just throw something so sacred and treat this as some kind of business deal. This is my daughter we're talking about!" Your dad jerks from his previous position.
Sooya's eyes widen in disbelief, "Dad, calm down. Let's talk this out while we're here." She tries to cool his anger down, but to no avail.
"No! This is bullshit. I can't believe we drove hours for this," he seethes. "If I'd only known what your intentions were, we wouldn't have agreed to this outrageous fancy shit."
