I still remember,
The very first time,
We held hands.

Red like a tomato,
Was your face and
Your hands,
A soft embrace.

The first gift I sent you,
You wanted a teddy bear.
When I held you in my arms,
I shed my first tear.

Your one word stopped me,
When I was about to smoke another puff,
When I was about to get handcuffed.
When I wanted to hang my neck,
Or drink another small peg.

Your one word, mommy
Did all the magic.

People say,
I gave you life,
But you changed mine.
