chapter twothe sun glistened along the span of the sky as park hae-rin, along with a collection of other people, stood by the entrance of her school's practice room.
lead by park gul-mi, a group of girls performed red velvet's "red flavour" as the surrounding students cheered along with the music — the combination creating a loud ruckus and doing little to aid to hae-rin's forming headache.
yet, much to her happiness, the girls finalised their performance as they stood in their ending poses and merriments projected from the spectators.
park hae-rin was among those who applauded, a smile curling her lips as she directed her line of sight toward her older sibling. grinning at her sister, the younger park girl took several paces until they were but a metre apart and she was able to loop her arm through her sister's.
"i think i'll be able to debut soon with a stage like that... i heard that scouts are going to visit where i take dance lessons!" gul-mi exclaimed as she lead her sister away from the room and out towards the cobbled outside area. "you might be able to say that you have an idol sister, rin!"
hae-rin's lips lifted at her relative's excitement as the two aimlessly ambled about the pavement. "i'm sure you'll do amazing gul-mi. oh and—"
cutting off her sister, gul-mi's phone pinged as said female pulled it out of her pocket: reading over the message she had just received.
the moment of silence that had washed over the two teenagers was hastily broken once the older of the pair spoke up once more — her eyes locking onto hae-rin's.
"can you take my shift tonight, hae-rin? i know you took it yesterday, and the other day, but..."
without questioning it, or more so not questioning it because she didn't want to know whether her sister truly needed her to cover her shift, hae-rin nodded.
"just text me the time that mum would've wanted you there by."grabbing a hold of her sister's shoulders, gul-mi pressed hae-rin uncomfortably against her for a minute in a poor attempt of a hug before she gave her a lopsided grin.
"thank you so much, rin! i'll see you later." with another buzz of her phone, gul-mi was strutting down the cobbled pathways of the school; her younger sibling mutely pressing her lips together as she tried to keep a frown from forming on her features.
park hae-rin had not been excited to take over her sister's shift, to say the least. her day at school hadn't been great and it did little to ease her increasing emotions to know that she would be greeted by serving customers after a long day.
rushing into her mother's store, the bell hanging above the door chiming, hae-rin hurriedly made her way towards the counter.
after greeting her only parental figure with a small smile, the youngest park daughter shrugged off her bag and coat — exchanging them for one of the shop's working vests — as she readied herself for the seven-hour shift ahead of her.
the repetitive sound of items being stacked onto shelves was the only noise that could be heard as park hae-rin continuously restocked sold-out products until a chime came from the entrance of the shop.
looking over her shoulder from her crouched position, hae-rin's gaze locked onto a shocked lee hye-yeong. his eyes were as wide as her's as they roamed the store, and later her, but it was just a second later when the boy diverted his eyes and began to pace over to the line of fridges.
