Your breathing is erratic as your trembling hands desperately search the first aid kit for bandages.
In front of you, Sigurd holds his leg, whimpering in pain, tears streaming from his eyes. You mumble an apology for taking so long. He just smiles and tells you not to worry.
Your fingers brush over a soft material and your heart seems to jump out of your chest in relief. Bandages. They look withered and old, who knows how long they've been there, but at this point, you didn't care. You just have to stop the bleeding.
You push the box aside and hastily unroll them. Your eyes quickly scan the injury. Three long claw marks, and they're deep too, judging by the amount of blood pouring from the wound.
If you don't hurry, Sigurd will die.
You let out a nervous breath and begin to roll the bandages over the wound. Sigurd breathes shakily. He bites his fingers, blood stains his lips as he tries to silence the sounds of pain.
But just as you are about to finish, your brother suddenly grabs your shoulders and starts shaking them in a panic. When you lift your head, you see that his face is even paler than before and his eyes are wide open in shock. He raises his left arm and points behind you.
You turn your head. In the window, you can see half of the face of the creature that almost killed you, its yellow eyes focused solely on you as its mouth makes horrible clicking noises. It raises one of its hands, and with its long claws, the creature draws clumsy shapes on the glass with blood. Sigurd's blood.
You feel your arms go limp as your breath becomes erratic once again. Sigurd drops his hands and you can hear him whimpering in fear. The creature slowly stands up, revealing its body that's dressed in ripped-up clothes showing the various patches of rotten skin.
It wants to eat both of you.
It got a taste of blood and it seems that it found it delicious.
You snap out of your thoughts as you notice that it raises both of its hands and begins to pound violently on the window. The glass slowly cracks under the pressure.
You quickly stand up and grab Sigurd's arm, who grunts in pain as he shifts his weight onto both legs. Using your right hand to support his back, the two of you make your way up the stairs and head for the first door.
As you barricade the flimsy piece of wood with a dresser, you hear glass shattering from downstairs.
The two of you sit in silence as you hear the creature's roar and the furniture being torn apart as it searches for the two of you.
You turn around to find Sigurd fiddling with the shotgun you brought with you. Hunting... you were supposed to go hunting. You had ended up in your temporary bedroom. He looks up at you and hands you the gun with tears in his eyes.
He whispers an apology.
You hesitate to take it.
No matter how much it hurts.

You wake up drenched in a cold sweat and every single nerve in your body seems to be on high alert as your eyes quickly scan the room. You breathe a sigh of relief and close your eyes as you recognize the semi-familiar room. You are in your mother's mansion. You are safe.
