ACT 1 SCENE 10

Byakuya Togami:
Why have you brought us here?

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
Don't take me back there!

Byakuya Togami:
We must return!

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
He'll kill me!

Byakuya Togami:
Be still now...

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
His eyes will find me there!

Byakuya Togami:
Kiyotaka, don't say that!

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
Those eyes that burn!

Byakuya Togami:
Don't even think it...

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
And if he has to kill a thousand men -

Byakuya Togami:
Forget this waking nightmare...

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
The Phantom of the Opera will kill!

Byakuya Togami:
This phantom is a fable. Believe me!

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
And kill again!

Byakuya Togami:
There is no Phantom of the Opera!

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
My God, who is this man...
Who hunts to kill?

Byakuya Togami:
This mask of death?

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
I can't escape from him!

Byakuya Togami:
Whose is this voice you hear?

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
I never will!

Byakuya Togami:
With every breath?

Both:
And in this labyrinth, where night is blind, the Phantom of the Opera is here: inside your/my mind.

Byakuya Togami:
There is no Phantom of the Opera.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
Byakuya, I've been there - to his world of
unending night . . . To a world where the daylight dissolves into darkness . . .
darkness . . .
Byakuya, I've seen him! Can I ever forget that sight? Can I ever escape from that face? So distorted, deformed, it was hardly a face, in that darkness . . .
darkness . . .
But his voice filled my spirit with a strange, sweet sound . . .
In that night there was music in my mind . . .
And through music my soul began to soar!
And I heard as I'd never heard before . . .

Byakuya Togami:
What you heard was a dream and nothing more!

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
Yet in his eyes all the sadness of the world . . .
Those pleading eyes, that both threaten and adore . . .

Byakuya Togami:
Kiyotaka...
Kiyotaka...

Mondo Owada (voice):
Kiyotaka...

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
What was that?

Byakuya Togami:
No more talk of darkness.
Forget these wide-eyed fears.
I'm here, nothing can harm you - my words will warm and calm you.
Let me be your freedom, let daylight dry -your tears.
I'm here, with you, beside you, to guard you and to guide you . . .

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
Say you love me every waking moment, turn my head with talk of summertime . . .
Say you need me with you, now and always . . .
promise me that all you say is true - that's all I ask of you . . .

Byakuya Togami:
Let me be your shelter, let me be your light.
You're safe: No-one will find you your fears are far behind you . . .

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
All I want is freedom, a world with no more night . . .
and you always beside me to hold me and to hide me . . .

Byakuya Togami:
Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime . . .
Let me lead you from your solitude . . .
Say you need me with you here, beside you . . .
anywhere you go, let me go too -
Kiyotaka, that's all I ask of you . . .

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:

Both:

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:

Byakuya Togami:
You know I do...

(Kiyotaka and Byakuya kiss)

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
I must go - they'll wonder where I am, Byakuya!

Byakuya Togami:
Kiyotaka, I love you

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
Order your fine horses! Be with them at the door!

Byakuya Togami:
And soon you'll be beside me!

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
You'll guard me and you'll guide me...

(they both leave and Mondo emerges from behind the statue)

Mondo Owada:
I gave you my music...
made your song take wing...
and now, how you've repaid me: denied me and betrayed me...
He was bound to love you when he heard you sing Kiyotaka... Kiyotaka...

Kiyotaka and Byakuya (offstage):
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime . . .
say the word and I will follow you . . .
Share each day with me, each night, each morning . . .

Mondo Owada:
You will curse the day you did not do all that the Phantom asked of you..!

(the stage curtains are drawn and the play has restarted. Kiyotaka is in Junko's costume and Junko is in his. About a minute in, manical laughter from Mondo is heard and the chandelier starts to swing. Some bulbs explode and the chandelier comes crashing down, hitting people on it's way, stopping at Kiyotaka's feet.)
