Kang Huifan threw her arms up in a silent success. She had finally finished that day's work, and not a moment too soon!
The clock above her desk struck twelve, and Kang Huifan sighed in relief once more. Her professors had assigned an enormous amount of work that day, and she was absolutely beat! She yawned, and closed her laptop, relishing in the relief that having the screen off brought to her eyes. She wanted to just hop right into bed, but there was something she needed to do that was even more pressing than going to sleep. Eating. That's right, she was absolutely starving, having had nothing but a rushed bagel since lunchtime.
She got out of her wheely chair, letting out a guttural noise as she stretched, and went into the kitchen. Boy, was she lucky her parents paid for her to live in an on-campus apartment. Not only that, but she didn't have any roommates! At least they were good for something.
The stove's light flicked on, warning Kang Huifan that the surface was hot. Obviously. She didn't want put much effort into this meal, as she did still want to sleep, but she also needed something filling, so she boiled up a pot of water, and dumped a box of dried macaroni into it's heated depths. While the noodles cooked, she scrolled through her phone, looking at random stuff to occupy her time.
The timer went off after a few minutes, signaling her macaroni was cooked, and she wasted no time in straining the pot, and even less stirring the powdered cheese in. Could one even call it cheese? Eh, that didn't matter since it tasted so good.
She dumped the cheesy contents of the pot onto a large plate, and quickly began shoveling macaroni into her hungry jaws, the action of eating the entire plate only taking a few minutes. When finished, she simply left the plate on the counter, to be washed when she wasn't feeling so exhausted. Sure, it was a bit disgusting, but a person's gotta do what a person's gotta do to get some rest. As she left, she accidentally nudged the papers that also sat on the counter, the pule falling in the direction of the stove. Yet, Kang Huifan took no notice, or, she just chose to ignore it just like the dirty plate. After all, what could go wrong?
______________________________
As it turns out, many things could go wrong. She had forgotten to turn off the stove in her haste to eat, and as she slept soundly, the heat had lit the papers on the counter on fire. It wouldn't have been an emergency if her smoke alarm had been functioning. No, it had died just the other day, causing the sleeping Kang Huifan to have no knowledge of the destruction outside her bedroom door until it was too late.
Smoke from the fire weaseled it's way into her room, coating the floor in a thick, foggy, cloud. Still, it was only when the blanket started to rise that Kang Huifan woke up, the smell of the smoke singing her nostril hairs. She jumped out of bed, her sheets still tangled around her body. She did her best to tear them off, but she couldn't move much, and the panicking only seemed to make things worse. Unfortunately, she had never been a hugely rational person, and continued to struggle in the tangled linens until her strength began to wane. She had inhaled too much to the smoke, and not enough oxygen.
Her throat burned, and she couldn't catch her breath, and as her eyes closed, she couldn't help but think, maybe the gods had cursed her, or maybe she was just stupid. After all, what kind of idiot died because they couldn't untangle their sheets?

AUTHOR'S NOTES
So, um...it's been a while. If any of ya'll read the first version, I deeply apologize for the long wait. MDZS has my fixation after so long, and I can no longer look at all those notifications of people adding the old one to their libraries without feeling guilty T.T
SSES 2.0 will feature more details, less plot holes, and hopefully better writing over all. I'll post the chapters that I've already written for now until I get ahead a bit. Keep in mind that I wrote these...a while ago, so if you notice a difference from these chapters and the newer ones that I will be posting soon, that's why!
For newcomers, I welcome you! I hope you enjoy c:
(Also mc got a bit of an overhaul, so there will be many differences in her character. *Cough cough* powerful and protective women are hot *cough cough*)
