'Wei Wuxian?!'
She silently exclaimed. Could it really be true? Or was it just a strange occurrence? No, this went beyond a slightly similar appearance, the two were the exact same. She had to make sure.
"What's your name, dear? I seem to have forgotten."
She didn't know if she was even supposed to know his name, but when she looked back on his previous actions and answers, it seemed like he knew this 'new' Kang Huifan, if that was even her own name any more.
"How could you forget, Da-Jie? It's me, A-Ying!"
A-Ying. Ying. Wei Ying. It was true, this was definitely Wei Wuxian, but much younger, how? How was that possible?
"And...what is my name?"
She didn't yet know if she had the same name in this...strange, situation, or if with a new body she received a new name as well. Hopefully, the young brain of Wei Ying wouldn't get too suspicious of her forgetting both of their names.
"What a silly question, is something wrong with you, Da-Jie? You told me it was Yan Liling, at least, I think that was it."
Wei Wuxian wore a confused expression, did his Da-Jie actually have dementia?"Ah of course, now I remember. And I was just kidding with you, A-Ying, of course
I know your name."She said, feigning a mischievous smirk. Of course, she had the hunch, but just had to confirm it, and with her own name, she really didn't have any idea.
"You're a meanie."
He pouted, even pushing out his lips and turning his head away like a baby who didn't want to eat. But before Yan Liling could 'apologize', or even continue teasing the boy, a knock sounded at the door.
The two looked to the shabby wooden board they used to block the wind, Wei Wuxian having lost his pout, and Yan Liling looking nervous, but also like she might have expected this. Could he really have come so soon after her 'arrival'?
Yan Liling approached the door, motioning to Wei Wuxian to stay where he was, because if it wasn't who she thought it was, there could be danger. She opened the door, and was immediately cast into the shadow of a tall man in purple robes. He looked down to her, taking in her shabby and semi-frozen clothing, neat but dirty dark hair, tanned skin and black eyes.
"Excuse me miss, but does there happen to be a young boy staying with you? About nine years old?"
He smiled kindly, and Yan Liling looked back into the house. It really was who she thought it was, Jiang Fengmian, Leader of the YunmengJiang sect, and he had come to take little Wei Wuxian away.
She beckoned for the shadows to come forward, but it wasn't really shadows, it was Wei Ying, a boy of about nine years old. He looked nervous but also amazed by the man in front of him, wearing such fine clothing and carrying himself with an air of power and authority. Jiang Fengmian knelt down to his eye level, after only a moment of staring at the child of his best friend.
"You are Wei Ying? The son of Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren?"
He questioned, and the boy nodded, his silver eyes conveying emotions of sudden sadness and confusion. He didn't know who this man was, had never met him before, yet he knew his parents? Even he barely knew his parents.
Still, Wei Wuxian nodded in confirmation.
Jiang Fengmian smiled, though he already knew this, it felt nice to hear it coming from the child himself.
"Good. You see, Wei Ying, I am a friend of your father's, and
I have been looking for you for a long time. I'm here to take you with me."At the sect leader's last sentence, Wei Ying retreated back into the door, where he hid behind Yan Liling, and the girl suddenly felt like kicking some sacks.
"I don't wanna go. Da-Jie would be sad."
Jiang Fengmian made eye contact with the girl harboring his friend's son, who was currently not objecting nor asking for the boy to be taken away. Due to this, he wondered about her motives.
Yan Liling herself had many thoughts flying through her mind, should she let him go? But what if things just turned out the exact same as in the original? Would that be a good thing or a bad thing? But, what if, with her interference, things could be different? What if Wei Ying never lost his golden core? What if he never had to go down the road of demonic cultivation? What if....everything could be avoided? She could give him a proper family among the Jiangs, and work behind the scenes to stop all of the misfortunes that would befall him before they could sprout."I...you should go with him, A-Ying. It...could be good for you."
Even if things turned out the same as in the original, it wouldn't happen without a struggle. Maybe she could help from the sidelines...somehow. But she knew that Wei Wuxian needed to go with the Jiangs, and if she could prevent the bad things from happening, he could live a good life with them.
At her words, Wei Wuxian backed away from where he was hiding behind her, he looked devastated and confused, wasn't she his Da-Jie? They were supposed to protect each other forever, why wouldn't she...miss him? Why does she want him to go!
Tears began to fall from his silver eyes, creating streams through the dirt on his face, and his body heaved with dry sobs.Yan Liling rushed over to try and comfort him, but he pushed her away, feeling betrayed. Yan Liling gazed at him with sadness, this was not the outcome she wished for. Just as she was about to open her mouth to take back her words, Jiang Fengmian spoke up.
"There is another option."
