This isn't a DNF ship, or anyone ship, just a short angsty oneshot abt me 👍

This book is good for venting my problems out so here I am!

Also, quick reminder since it might be not super noticeable, but this 3rd person pov, but with only one character, it uses she/they/he pronouns

Tw: Covid, loneliness, swearing

Deep woody-brown eyes flicked over the image once more, smiles adorning the faces of its subjects, the person's friends, all happily staring up at him. The glossy screen blared blue light onto their face and she scrolled to the next photo, a screenshot taken from a carelessly snapped snapchat photo, best friends pulling funny faces beside each other.

One with dark hair and deep olive skin had their tongue stuck out, the other, pale skin with chestnut hair, just smiling into the lens. They seemed so happy, so free, as though they didn't have large problems they were constantly relaying onto the person they sent the image to. She didn't mind hearing them and trying to help, it made him feel useful, wanted.

He glanced up from the small, white device in their hands and turned it off as clear, salty liquid dripped down their cheek. The house was silent, the other members who lived in it spread to separate corners of the building, those with the deadly disease recovering from it's wrath, those without it desperately trying to avoid joining them.

They knew deep down they'd had a choice; whether to go to school and be with their friends, or to stay at home in a normally bustling environment that had become the opposite, and part of her regretted fighting so valiantly for the latter, missing the social interaction that dreaded place brought. They knew it was for the best, holding onto the hope his friends wouldn't have to go through this.

They wiped their eyes quickly and took in a sharp breath, knowing it was better to look happy, even if they didn't feel it. Two years in a row, their birthday had been ruined by the same thing, two years in a row had they been stuck sitting in their room staring at photos of friends who looked happier without them by their side through photos sent her way.

'Happy birthday I guess.' They thought bitterly to themselves, wishing for this all to end. 'Happy fucking birthday.'

The end! :)

I did actually have a good birthday, I just wanted to make this!
