"I love it." Odessa smiled.

"Don't lie to the boy, Des. He has the interior design skills of a 9 year old." Jess shook their head before pointing to something on a coffee table.  "Is that a Hot Wheels car?"

Ezra picked up the small red toy car and hid it behind his back. "No."

Odessa giggled. She genuinely didn't think Ezra's taste were all that bad. Although, for an artist, he should have a bit more skill.

The three stood in the living room of Ezra's new apartment, the one he had insisted on getting situated all on his own. He had done a decent job, besides the decorative mishaps here and there.

Jess had been wanting to see the place and invited Odessa to tag along. At that point, Jess was using any excuse they could think of to get Odessa and Ezra in the same room. Odessa was aware of this and was very grateful while Ezra, for his part, was generally aloof.

They toured the apartment, Ezra giving detailed explanations on things in the same way he did back at the museum. Odessa justified it as endearing, while Jess was still harping on the blatant lack of efficient design.

"Ezra, I know you studied color theory," They ranted. "So, why is it that this couch looks like someone threw up and entire Home Goods onto it?"

"I tried the maximalist thing." Ezra shrugged.

"A great aesthetic to work with." Odessa piped in.

"And apparently an impossible one to pull off." Jess mumbled. They checked the time on their phone. "Thank goodness my busy schedule is going to save me from this design torture. I have to head to my studio."

"You have a studio?" Odessa questioned.

"It's a shared, rental space," Jess explained quickly, waving a dismissive hand. "Anyway, good luck with this place Ez. I'll see you guys soon."

"Bye, Jess." Odessa said, giving them a hug.

Jess left unceremoniously quick and Ezra wondered for a moment why they'd left at all. From his knowledge of their schedule, they didn't usually go to the studio so late in the day. He shrugged it off and focused his attention on his remaining guest.

"So, what do you think of it?" Ezra inquired, gesturing around the place.

"It's cozy." Odessa replied. "I feel like once you settle in, everything will really come together."

Ezra nodded absently and made his way to the kitchen to grab some snacks. While he searched through the fridge and cupboards, Odessa took a seat on the couch, carefully tucking her skirt under her as she did. When Ezra returned to where she sat, he saw her looking curiously over one of his sketchbooks that was laid out on the coffee table.
