*I'm claiming my spot as an OG Daisy Johnson and Maria hill fan before secret invasion haha. Also please comment ideas, I'm desperate. This is kind of intense and includes torture scenes and rape references, so trigger warning for that if you need it*

• Trigger warning: Torture scenes and rape references•

Nat was just leaving shield for the day. She was exhausted emotionally, and didn't know how she was functioning at all. Without Maria here she just felt empty and nauseous all the time, the idea of Maria lying dead on the side of a road somewhere constantly on her mind. Nick was even worse; ever since Maria was kidnapped on a mission months ago, he was barley holding it together. She was jolted back to reality by Coulson tapping her shoulder excitedly,'
'Nat! NAT!' He whispered urgently
'This better be fucking important, what?'
'Nat,' he sighed breathlessly, 'we might have a location.' Nat dropped her bag and papers immediately, and her heart started pumping fast enough to make her dizzy.
'Where?' She whispered,
'I just got the message now, Fury is in IT with agent Johnson, he wants us there ASAP.'
Nat just ran. There is an unwritten rule between shield agents, where if someone is running down the hallway, you get out the way. Coulson sprinted past many juniors flattened against the wall in his was to IT, which had seemed a lot closer when he was a younger agent. Sure enough Daisy and Nick were waiting In IT looking focused.
'Where is she?' Nat panted, urgently looking over daisy Johnson's shoulder. Daisy was zooming in on a location somewhere in Eastern Europe.
'Give me a minute, her tracker only just activated.' Daisy was typing quickly, translating all the location names into English. She suddenly slammed the desk with her hands, 'Abandoned industrial estate near Minsk, Belarus. It looks like there might have been some old factories, so there is a lot of ground to cover.'
Nat started walking to the door, 'well then let's get moving, we might not have much time.'
Nick stopped her before she could exit, 'hold on  Romanoff, this is suspicious as hell. She's been a hostage for three months with no trace and her tracker suddenly activates? It could be a red herring or a trap.'
'Well we have to do something, I'm not giving up on her, I refuse to believe she is dead in a ditch somewhere in Belarus. She's stronger than that, and you know it.
'I'm not saying we aren't going Nat, but I want you to stay behind. We don't know what state she may be in, and we may even be recovering a body. I just don't want you to have to see that, its not fair on you.'
Nat slowly took a deep breath and tried to compose herself. She knew Fury was right. She was strong, but seeing her girlfriend in any state of dismemberment might be too much for her. She had never loved anyone as much as she loved Maria, and she didn't know how she would react. It probably was best she just stay behind.
'Nick, I trust you to bring her back home to me if you find her, dead or alive. I'll call you a Quinn jet and a strike team, make sure she knows I'm waiting for her here, ok?'
'Don't worry,' he smiled sadly, 'I'll take care of her Nat.'
'I know you will.'

• THREE MONTHS EARLIER•

Maria was running hard. Her comms was making white noise and she couldn't find her partner anywhere. They were out in the open, which Maria had learnt from her army days was never good news. They were there after shield  got a hit on a high value target on a street security camera. The target in question was Akita Lubachev, ex KGB assassin who was according to intel, working for a possible terrorist organisation. As soon as shield were notified of his presence, they sent a strike team containing some of there best agents, including Maria, to his location. Maria didn't usually work in the field, but they were short a few people and she was one of the best field agents shield ever had, which was one of the reasons she was promoted to deputy director. The comms system went back up as Maria was crouching behind some dumpsters waiting for backup.
'This is mission control confirming comms is back up and running, over'
'This is agent Hill, Affirmative. I've lost eyes on the HVT, please send backup ASAP,Over.'
Maria sudden heard footsteps and heavy breathing up the alley she was waiting in, They were seriously nearby. She froze still and started breathing slow and shallow, waiting for confirmation the person she could hear was Lubachev. She heard a man with a heavy Eastern European accent talking into a radio;
'This is Delta 1 confirming We have eyes on the target, over.'
Maria's blood ran cold, so this was A setup. She felt like and idiot for not realising an ex KGB assassin was unlikely to accidentally look straight at a camera, let alone one in New York where shield had a warrant for him. She began to immediately run people through her head, trying to figure out who Lubachev, or who he is working for, could possibly want. She came to Nat. Lubachev was ex KGB and so was Nat, so it made sense that they had common enemies who possibly offered Lubachev his life and family in exchange for Nat. She reached for her earpiece, desperate to warn her girlfriend of eight months about the target on her back.
'I don't think you want to touch that, Miss Hill.' The voice came from behind her. She felt a sharp, cold needle slide into the side of her neck, and then a shooting pain in her entire body. As she slumped onto her side, she saw Lubachev and several others standing over her with an empty syringe ,and a guns pointed at her head.
'Target acquired and neutralised boss, heading back now.'
That was the last thing she heard before she blacked out.
