Dad's Visit
Ronnie was amidst opening her club when Sergio, her dad's bodyguard, cleared his throat behind her. "Miss Ramirez."
She turned, sighing inwardly. "Uncle Sergio, what brings you here? Shouldn't you be in St. Louis with my father?" Ronnie's tone was cheery yet annoyed, her smile forced.
Sergio's expression hinted at concern. "Ronnie, your dad sent me to collect you. He's in Miami and wants to see his only child."
Ronnie relocked the club doors and texted her bouncer, citing a family emergency. Then, she followed Sergio to the limo.
Inside, her father, Xavier Ramirez, awaited. "Hola, Papa," Ronnie said, but Xavier's brow twitched.
"English, please, princess." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "I need you to look after my business partner's daughter."
Ronnie's eyes flashed anger. "¿Qué diablos, papá? I own a club, not a babysitting service!" she exclaimed in Spanish.
Xavier cleared his throat, giving her the "dad look." "Watch your mouth. This favor will seal the deal with Mr. Bennett."
Ronnie's ire intensified. "Mr. Bennett? That egotistical, wannabe billionaire? I'm to babysit a billionaire's princess Barbie reject?"
Xavier yelled after her as she exited the limo, storming off to her 1987 Dodge Viper. "Stop acting like your mother! I don't understand Latin, damn it!"
Ronnie whipped into her parking spot, locked her car, and entered her penthouse apartment, muttering angrily to herself. She flopped onto the sofa, feeling like a stressed teenage girl.
