Mariana's POV

"I'll miss you" Leonard chuckled
"But hey, you might break the law again, one can only hope" he grinned
I ignored him, and packed up the little I had
My letters, the few things David had brought me.

When I stepped outside for the first time... in two years
It felt... like a fantasy
Like I would blink and it would all be a vision in my head.
But it wasn't

It was real, the sun blaring down on me was real, and I closed my eyes
Intent on soaking it up in case I woke up.
That warmth... the fresh air
Well... as fresh as anyone could get in Small Heath

And finally being away from that monster
He couldn't hurt me anymore, he couldn't touch me or torment me anymore
I was... free

"Mar" I heard Polly say, I opened my eyes, only to be in her arms as she hugged me tightly
"Oh I missed you" she said
I slowly hugged her back, looking up over her shoulder to see everyone stood there
Waiting... for me

"I want to go home" I said
"Of course, of course you do, come on" she said, placing her hand on my back
But I couldn't help but flinch away
I didn't want her to touch me.

I didn't want any of them here
I just wanted to go home
"Mar" Arthur smiled, unmoving
I think they all caught on that I wasn't in the mood for a big welcome home
I walked past him, past all of them and headed down the street

"Mar, Mari stop" David said, catching up to me
"Come on, get in the wagon" he said, directing me across the street

No one spoke on the way home
Apart from a few small comments here and there
But I think my silence silenced them.

And I hadn't looked at Tommy once.

"Here we are" Polly said, opening my door
I stepped inside, thankful to be away from it all, and I shut the door behind me. Shutting them out
It was too crowded. Too... much.

I took a breath, before taking in the house
It was the same. The exact same as the day I left
Same smell, same everything.

I slowly trailed up the stairs, passing by David's room, stopping by mums room to look, to remember... and then climbing into my bed.

I just wanted to sleep. Sleep away the last 2 years. Forget.

Tommy's POV

She didn't even look at me
She didn't look at any of us
I spent the entire ride home staring at her
At her dark hair. No sun having lightened it the way it normally does
Her tired eyes, dry lips, the light in her green eyes faded.
