"I have something to give you."

I fumble to take out the purple hourglass from my bag. Once it's out, I place it in her hand. There's an expression on her face that I can't read. I know one thing though, she doesn't look happy. And she definitely won't start falling in love with me and wanting to become my girlfriend. (quoted Oliver.)

I'm still processing everything when she grabs my shirt and brings her face closer. You see, I didn't know the person at table A would be Ei. I didn't receive any details from Oliver or K. Whoever K is, they never showed up.

"How'd you get this? Answer me!"

My heart starts beating fast and my face feels hot. Her breath is literally in my face and she looks super intimidating. Our mouths are inches apart. God, not again. Stop.

I struggle to think of what to say. I open my mouth, but no words come out. I messed up again. Why can't I just say something?!

The next thing I know, she's already packing up her stuff and then she's out of there. I have a vague memory of calling out her name and feeling tears of frustration spill down my cheeks as I rush after her with the world a blurry mess.

I can't think straight. (😏) All I know is that this is a huge misunderstanding.

"Ei!"

"Ei!"

"Stop, please! I can explain!!"

----------------------------------

I pant and wheeze. I've chased her all the way to Lakewood Park and that girl hasn't stopped once. She sure has a lot of stamina. I can't believe she can run with those 3 inch heels. That's pretty damn impressive 'cause there's a reason why I only wear sneakers.

I don't realize she's stopped and now she's sitting on the ground. Sh*t. I'm running too fast, I can't stop.

We topple over each other. We're a tangle of limbs and hair until I find myself positioned on top of her and -- are those tears?

That's when I realize she may have been crying. I avoid eye contact and get off her.

"Um, sorry about that. I followed you here because I have something to say."

She doesn't look like she's about to cry anymore, so I take that as a sign to keep talking.

"I got that hourglass from a guy called Oliver. No idea who he is, but he told me to give it to the person at table A today. He promised me that you- I mean the person would uh... want to be my friend...?"

Silence. And more silence. I start to think she isn't going to answer so I get up and I'm about to turn around to leave her alone but I feel a hand on my wrist pulling me back down.

"Oliver gave that to you?" she asks.

"Mhm, yeah. I... I never meant to get you mad."

She nods slowly, probably making sense of my words. I hope I didn't say the wrong thing this time. She pulls out her phone and immediately starts texting someone.

I resist the urge to look at the screen so I just ask, "Who are you texting?" instead. I don't expect her to answer though.

"Oliver."

"You have his number?" Huh? Now I'm confused.

"Yeah, he's my... idiot best friend. Kind of like my annoying little brother."

Oh. So Oliver and Ei know each other? They're friends? Did Oliver set me up or did he actually believe Ei would fall in love with me? This is still so confusing.
