Dear Writers:
As you probably all know, emotions make up the central part of your story.
They are the most important part of the whole book, as your characters' emotions decide what stays and goes in your stories.
Some writers are very good at writing emotions out.
However...
Some writers don't know how changing a word can bring out new feelings in a passage.
I have 2 sentences written here.
They both mean the same thing and are written with the same amount of words.
However, they both have 2 differences that you'll be sure to recognize.
Here we go.
Sentence #1: He screamed in pain as the knife cut through his skin.
Sentence #2: He cried in agony as the knife cut through his skin.
Notice a difference?
The word "pain" tells you that he's hurt, but the word "agony" adds a new depth to the amount of pain he's feeling compared to other things.
Same with the words "screamed" and "cried".
"Screamed" tells you he's hurting very badly, but "cried" tells you that the pain is so bad that it can evoke tears.
Let's do another comparison.
Once again, 2 sentences.
Sentence #1: She was happy that her favorite cousins would be spending the weekend.
Sentence #2: She was ecstatic that her revered cousins would be spending the weekend.
Notice a difference?
The word "happy" tells you that she's feeling excited, but the word "ecstatic" tells you that this is much more than a regular happy feeling.
The word "favorite" tells readers that these cousins stand out amongst her others, but the word "revered" tells the reader that not only do they stand out, she actively looks up to them as well.

Try to use more dynamic words in your writing. It can make that much of a difference.
