Chapter 3

Rooftop, same day

“Khloe, how are you doing? Are you alright?”

Reece asked the youngest of The Bella the moment he picked up the call.

" I'm fine sweetie. By the way, have you seen Jessica today? She has gone missing from the dorm. She has taken her clothes and her passport but she didn’t leave a note. We can’t get her on her mobile phone as well and she is never without it. What are we going to do? I’m scared...”

Khloe started sobbing at that moment and Reece panicked not knowing what to do. He was never good at comforting girls. Now his darling Khloe is crying, he felt even more helpless.

“Khloe baby, don’t cry. I’d be there immediately. We’ll work something out, I promise.”

“Reece...”

“Don’t cry, Khloe ah, you are breaking my heart with your sobs. Calm down, go get something to drink and I’d be there as soon as possible ok?”

“Ok...”

Reece got off the phone and was turning to tell his other members that he’s off to The Bellas' dorm when he saw Darren and Mason wearing panicked and worried looks on their faces as well. Once their eyes met, they knew that they have all received the same call of help.

They turned to Teddy who was still on the phone with the mysterious caller. They caught the last of his conversation.

“Of course I’d take care of him... Hello? Jess...”

“Teddy! Are you on the phone with Jessica? Where is she?”

Teddy turned round to look at the 3 SMASH members, only to see them right in his face.

“Yes... I was on the phone with Sica, why?”

“Where is she?”

Mason, who usually did not say much, spoke up. Seeing that it was Mason who asked, Teddy was quite taken back as well.

“I don’t know. She just called to ask me to take care of Jon. Why? What’s wrong?”

“Other Bella members just called to say that she is missing from the dorm. She has left with her clothes and passport and didn’t leave them a note at all. They are all panicking right now.”

Darren offered the explanation in the calmest way possible.

“What?! She didn’t say anything about leaving when she called just now! Let’s go back to the studio and see if we can catch her there.”

“Alright, let’s hurry! Kris ah, we are going back to the studio.”

The 4 hurriedly left the rooftop, not waiting for the the youngest.

At this very moment, Jessica walked out of the building and Kris saw her.

“JESSICA JUNG!!”

Kris shouted and waved like a madman when Jessica looked up. She was shocked but knew she had to wave at Kris and pretended that nothing was out of the ordinary. After sending a quick smile and wave, she quickly got into the cab which she had waiting for her. She took one last look at the building that held so much of her laughter and tears.

Goodbye. Thank you for seeing me through all these years. Goodbye.

Kris turned around, wanting to tell the other 4 who he just saw when he realized that the rooftop was empty. He quickly ran towards the elevator and caught up with his members.

“Why are we going back to the studio? Did Jon call?”

The elevator came at the moment and all of them got in. After pressing the floor number for the studio, Teddy explained why they were going back to Jonathan.

“No, but we need to catch hold of Jessica. The girls are in a state of panic because she has gone missing from the dorm.”

DING. The elevator signalled their arrival at their desired floor.

“Huh? But I just saw Jessica leave the building. I was waving at her just now.”

“WHAT?! WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY? YOU SAW JESSICA? WHERE IS SHE?”

Everyone turned to look at the elevator door. Jonathan was standing there, looking ready to pounce on Kris if he doesn’t answer him fast enough.

“Jon, calm...”

Darren stepped forward to hold onto Jonathan only to have his hand flung off harshly by him. He stepped past Darren and grabbed Kris’s jacket.

“Kris Lee, I do not have time to play around with you. Where did you say you saw Jessica?”

“Jon , let go... I don’t know...”

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON’T KNOW?!! DIDN’T YOU JUST SAY THAT YOU WERE WAVING TO HER?!! WHICH WAY DID SHE GO?!!”

“I really don’t know... We were on the rooftop and I saw her coming out of the building. A cab was waiting for her at the door. When I spotted her, I shouted her name and she looked up. She gave me a quick smile and waved before getting into the cab.”

“Why didn’t you stop her? WHY?! WHY DIDN’T ANY OF YOU STOP HER?!!!”

Jonathan looked at Kris then at the other 4 who came out of the elevator with him. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, trying to keep his tears in.

“Kris, did she have her luggage with her? Khloe said that she took her clothes and...”

Jon’s eyes shot open when he heard Reece’s enquiry. He released Kris and turned towards Reece instead.

“What did you just say? What is this about her with her luggage? Where is she going?”

Although he wasn’t shouting, his voice was laced with a quiet rage which the members knew is potentially more dangerous than if he was shouting. They know if they allow it to get out of hand, it would be difficult to control him, much less calm him down. Darren exchanged a look with Mason and Mason nodded back in understanding. They each moved to either side of their leader, ready to hold him down should he threaten to hit the two younger members.

“Reece, I’m asking one more time. Why did you ask Kris if Sica had her luggage with her? Where is she going?”

“Jon , I don’t know where she’s going. That is something we would all like to know. We received a phone call from The Bella girls, each asking if we have seen Jessica today. They found her missing from the dorm, her clothes and passport are both gone. They are worried sick about where she might be.”

Reece answered as calmly as he could so that Jonathan can hear him clearly. It would not do to make him even more agitated.

Jon turned to Kris once again since he was fortunate or unfortunate enough to have been the last one to see Jessica before she boarded the cab.

“Kris, yes or no? Did you see her with her luggage?”

“Yes.”

The moment he heard Kris’s answer, he took a step towards the elevator. Darren and Mason stepped forward and held him down.

“DARREN, LET ME GO! I HAVE TO GO AFTER HER!”

“Jon, listen, calm down first!”

“NO!! DON’T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!! SHE’S WALKING OUT OF MY LIFE! SHE’S LEAVING! HOW CAN YOU ASK ME TO CALM DOWN?!! LET ME GO THIS INSTANCE!!!”

“Didn’t you ask her to leave? Weren’t you the one who told her that you didn’t need her? Why are you behaving like a madman now, Jonathan Loh?”
