It's been a year. A whole year since the death of Antoinette Henderson. It's safe to say, her passing took its toll on each person that knew and loved her. Dustin had to learn to fight without her, and took to writing to her like a diary, because he felt that she, somehow, someday, would appreciate that he never stopped talking to her. He never stopped thinking about her. Somedays he would just sit in her bedroom, and do nothing but miss her more than anything. The only thing he ever took of hers, was her necklace. The one that he and the party had given her a couple years ago for her birthday. He wore it under all his clothes, carrying that small metal ant with his wherever he went. School was tough though. Some of the more nasty kids found the loss of his sister something to be mocked, but lucky for him, he still had his friends. To carry him on days he felt he couldn't walk. And he had Steve. Granted, for the first few weeks, Steve had dropped out of existence. Nobody was able to contact him, and he never left the house. He just stayed in bed all day, every day, wondering how she could just leave him like this. He was angry that she allowed herself to be taken so easily, but overall he felt he had nothing left to get out of bed for. There would be nights where he would dream of her, but find she wasn't beside him when he woke. And that thought simply made him want to die. Perhaps, if not for Robin, he would still be in this state. She practically broke into his house, told him he was never going to lose that feeling unless he started to live again. Of course, he told her no. But then he felt obligated when she told him that now, he had to live for the both of them. She encouraged him to get a job, and to reconnect with the party. And slowly, the pain grew less and less crippling. Until, Nancy decided that, after a whole year, it was about time Steve went on a date. It took some convincing, and so far, she'd got him in the car.
"I can't do it." He sighed, his grip on the steering wheel tightening. "I don't want to do it."
"You're doing great. Just one step at a time." Nancy smiled from beside him.
"Okay... what's the next step?"
"The date."
"Oh my god."
"Look, just relax, okay. We'll just sit for a minute, put on some music." She said, flicking on the radio. She made to change the station, but Steve swatted her hand away. "Ow."
"Don't ever change the station, when this song is on, okay?"
"Islands is the stream?" Nancy asked, looking at him questioningly.
"It was her favourite." He simply said. The music settled through the car, and they sat in it for a moment, the words pulling at heart strings.
"Islands in the Stream... that is what we are... noone inbetween...how can we be wrong..."
"...sail away with me...""...to another world..."
"...and we rely on each other,
a-ha."She turned her head, knitting her brows in confusion. What is going on? Where the hell is that music coming from?
