"Fight back!"

Brett shoved Luke back into the lockers. Luke just stared at the floor, avoiding eye contact with the bully. Brett laughed in his face, mockingly.

"Next time when your stupid mouth to try and be a hero, make sure you have the balls to back it up! Now what were you saying? I should leave him alone? Come on Carter speak up!". He grabbed Luke's face squeezing it tight and forcing Luke to look at him.

Brett looked at the boy on the ground and Gave him a look that said"Get out of here before I kill you" the boy for up and ran for his life. He then raised his fist up ready to attack."You had you're chance you little shit hole, now I'm going to make you regret ever coming to this school!". Luke braced himself for the impact but nothing happened. He opened his eyes to see Noah Parker holding Brett's arm.

"That's enough Brett"Noah spoke calmly and coolly, but his aura was fierce and made the air become thick and heavy, even for Brett.

Luke noticed his other two friends standing next to Noah. Now most girls would be too scared too get involved in a serious boy matter like this but they weren't those kind of girls, if this came to fists they were ready. Brett and Noah locked eyes for a moment. A lot happened in that moment, it was like a battle of auras and Noah won. He released his grip on Luke and shrugged Noah's hand off. Luke massaged his face and gave Noah a look that said"thanks man". Noah nodded and glared at Brett who just put his hands in his pockets an turned to walk away. He scoffed"I don't know why you protect this guy" he started.

"You know that he'd never do the same for you, right pussy?" He looked at Luke. The taller girl with long black hair spoke up. "Of course he would, Luke's our friend and he would definitely protect us If we needed help".

Luke gaped at the girl whose name was Blaire Harrison. She was one of the people who had the most faith in him and when she talked people listened. He had always admired her, more than he had expected of himself. Brett looked at the other girl"You'd better get home before curfew or mom's gonna hear it." He said and then walked down the hallway to the boys bathroom. Noah held out his hand to Luke, who grabbed it and got up. He looked at all his friends.

"Thank you go guys so much." He said.

The short haired blonde girl who was Brett's sister smiled at him. "You don't need to thank us Luke, we're friends, it's what we do." Blaire looked at her watch,"Um...guys I think we all need to get to class, let's meet up after school, okay?". They all agreed and headed to their classes.

Luke POV:
Sometimes I feel like such a loser. I'm fifteen years old and I still need my friends to protect me. Damn! I wish I could be stronger. I wish I could be the one protecting them instead of them protecting me. My life sucks, I'm bad at sports, I don't have much luck with girls and I'm probably the most unpopular guy at this school. Blaire will never go out with a guy like me, I wish I could change myself and become someone who actually matters. A person who everyone recognizes and looks up to. I guess I have to start by being able to defend myself.
End of Luke POV.

After school the four friends met up together to plan where they were going to hang out.
"We could all go get some pizza and head over to my house later". Blaire said as the four of them walked out of school. She noticed the look on Luke's face. "What's wrong Luke? We could go someplace else if you want?". He turned to Blaire,"No, it's not that but I don't think your parents like us very much", he told her. Dana spoke up, "Yeah, they probably think we're bad company or something". Blaire looked a little shocked, " Noah, so you think so?", His mouth pursed upwards.

"Um...not really?", Was all he could manage. Blaire folded her arms and sulked like a child. "Okay then, just pizza".

It was a cold night. Blaire, Dana and Noah were busy enjoying their large pepperoni pizza when Luke came into the restaurant. He looked a little flustered in his  red oversized jacket and gray beanie cap.
"Hey, Luke over here!". Dana yelled and waved even though he was just a few feet away. They all looked at him as he sat down at their table. He looked up and was little shocked to see them focused on him.

"What?", He asked them. Blaire leaned in towards him, while cocking her head sexily. Luke swallowed.

"Have you been getting enough sleep, Luke?". She finally asked him. "You look really tired".

Dana took slice of pizza and bit it. "Yeah you look like you haven't slept in a week."

Noah sighed and leaned back on his chair. "I actually noticed some time ago but I didn't say anything."

Luke thought back to the past few days, thinking about the important things which kept him awake. Besides the pile of homework he received every day from school and his part time jobs, he didn't really have a lot of free time. He had a knack for getting involved in too many things. He'd stay up all night studying, reading manga and watching anime. There was also the volunteer work he usually took up at the orphanage and shelters for the homeless. This made him more popular with the town-folk. On top of all of that his mother aunt worked extra late so he'd have to manage the house, cook dinner and so on. Leaving him a few hours to relax.

"I've been a little busy", he finally said. They just laughed at him and the group chatted for hours before deciding to leave.

It was around 9pm when they left the restaurant. Noah and Dana went to get ice-creams. This was intentional, so Luke and Blaire could be alone.

"So......", Luke tried to start a conversation as awkward as he was. She flicked her long hair over her shoulder and looked at him and smiled.

  He swallowed again.

"How long has it been going on?". She asked him out of the blue. He looked confused.

"How long has what been going on?". He began to think. Did she think he was seeing someone else?

"I mean Brett bullying you". Her smile faded into a kind of serious face. "How long has it been going on?"

He looked down, embarrassed. It was horrible having the girl he liked talk about how some bigger, stronger guy was picking on him.

He bent his head. "Since I got into middle school I think". She had a serious face on.

"People like Brett have no respect for others, they prey on weak people and take advantage of them. Very irritating".

Did she just call him weak? He knew he was but coming from her it just sounded way worse.

   Blaire looked genuinely disgusted.

Suddenly, there were gunshots firing from afar. People started running all over the place, getting into their cars and a huge commotion erupted.

Luke and Blaire were running around looking for Noah and Dana, but somehow they couldn't find them anywhere. Luke let out a slight yelp behind Blaire.

She turned back to look at him, he had a scratch on his arm, it was bleeding a lot. "Oh my God Luke you're bleeding!".

He held his arm up in a certain position to prevent the blood from flowing too much. " I must have scratched it on a broken glass or something, I'll be fine. It doesn't even hurt that much". He lied.

"Your little scream says otherwise", she told him. She perceived smoke coming from somewhere, it looked like the whole area had been turned to a battle ground. Worry for her two lost friends filled her. Her thoughts were interrupted by someone wheezing.

Luke looked pale, he was gasping for air. She led him somewhere secure so she could help him. He quickly pointed to where his inhaler was and she took it out and gave it to him. He felt a lot better after taking a few gulps, he realized they had been holding hands this whole time ever since the gunshots, it felt nice.

"Now for your arm". Blaire brought out some wipes from her hand bag and started dabbing and applying pressure to his wound. She used her scarf to tie his arm and the bleeding subsided. "Thank you", he said.

"No problem, you're my friend." She smiled.

Her smile turned into a frown." I hope They're okay". She worried.

He stood up and put his scarf around her. "Don't worry we'll find them".
