The Guardians

Chapter 4: Move in day

"You have a brother?" He asked. I could tell he was trying to get to know me, which I appreciated. "Yeah, David, he has powers too, and he was the first I told about mine. He is a telepath like me but he doesn't have telekinesis like me."

David was my older brother by about five years. He always protected me, I was his little sister after all. He was leaving for a new job in a new city when I told him I was joining the Guardians, we haven't talked since.

Zephyr must have sensed that I didn't want to talk about my brother anymore, because he didn't press any further. He just walked over, patted me on the shoulder, picked up his whip and walked out of the training room.

You ok? Leona thought. I looked at her and nodded. I just don't like to talk about my brother, he wasn't exactly supportive of me joining the team. She nodded and smiled understandingly.

I asked her if we could postpone our training session until after I moved in and she agreed, and asked if I needed any help. I accepted the help and we walked toward the bunker entrance. When we got there I shot a message to Lara and Karina to see if they wanted to help and they said yes and met us at the door.

We were in my apartment talking and packing up my stuff. Laughing at jokes and listening to music. Lara shot me a look and said, "So Marney, what's going on with you and Zephyr?"

I looked at her and laughed "there is nothing going on between us. He showed me my room, had some choice thoughts, and we spared, to which Leona can attest, I put him on his ass."

When I told them that Leona nodded and we all burst out laughing. "So about these choice thoughts, yours or his?"

"His."

"Good or bad?"

"Good."

"What did he say?"

"At first it was 'so cute', then when we were sparring and he had me on my back, it was 'she is so beautiful'. And then he asked how to get me out of his head."

"So he does have a thing for you. I thought he did since he has been asking about you."

"He's been asking about me? Since when?"

"Since a week ago, apparently he spotted me when we went shopping last week and he asked about you that day after." I was dumbstruck, I knew he liked me but didn't know he knew about me before we actually met.

We finished up the packing and got everything in my car. When we got back to the bunker the guys were outside waiting for us, they helped us get all of my stuff in my quarters, then left me to unpack and get everything organized the way I like it.

I was putting my books on the bookshelf, when Zephyr walked in, he didn't say anything but I knew he was there. Damn, that's a lot of books. "Yep, what can I say, I like to read." I said as I turned around and smiled. "I didn't mean to stare. I was wondering if you needed any help."

"It's fine, you can start unpacking that box if you want."

"Ok." he started to unpack a box containing more of my books and some of my journals in it.

"So, Lara said you were asking about me."

He stopped and looked at me "she did, did she."

"Yep, she said that you have been asking about me since last week. I knew you liked me but I didn't know you liked me that much."

He stared at me. Well, are you gonna do something about it? I projected in his mind. With the flick of his wrist, he made a gust of wind behind me and pulled me to him. With his arms wrapped around me, he looked at me, and I became lost in his stormy eyes. "Go on a date with me."

"Ok, when?"

"Tomorrow night?"

"Ok, it's a date."

His thoughts told me he wanted to kiss me so I beat him to it. With my lips pressed to his, I felt the want and desire he felt for me. When we pulled away for air I said that he should leave so I could finish unpacking, he nodded giving me a final peck on the lips and a smile before walking out of my quarters.

With the thought of our date as motivation I finish unpacking and putting everything away. Immediately after I went in search of Lara and the twins. The guys were called on a mission, so the girls stayed behind to keep me company since I was still new and hadn't gotten my suit yet. I found them in the hangout area, Lara and Karina were playing a video game while Leona was getting a snack from the kitchen.

"Girls, I need help."

Lara paused the game and looked at me, "what's up?"

"I have a date tomorrow."

"Ok?"

"With Zephyr."

They were dumbstruck. "And you need our help to get you ready."

"Yes, y'all have known him longer, you are my best way to learn about him before the date."

"Well the guys won't be back until tomorrow morning, and you still need your suit so why don't do both, we will work on your suit and talk about Zeph at the same time."

We moved into my quarters and had a makeshift sleep over. While Leona and Karina helped me with my suit, Lara was rummaging through my closet for something to wear for my date, with Zephyr. For my hero suit we decided on a light blue short tight dress with long sleeves that ended mid-thigh, a purple belt would hang on my waist and a light blue circlette with a purple gem would sit on my head as a way to amplify my telepathic powers. Lara came out of my closet with a lavender sundress, a black leather jacket and black wedge sandals. She put them together, hanging them on the hook on my closet door. After everything was settled we just started talking, I learned a lot about Zephyr. Like how he has a younger sister, Raine, and that his dad died when he was sixteen and has been taking care of his mom ever since. After talking for what felt like hours we all practically passed out on my floor.

When morning came, I was awoken by a light wind blowing over my face and a small paper plane sitting on my chest. I opened the paper and read the note. Meet me in the training room where you flipped me, I knew immediately that the note belonged to Zephyr. So I got up and dressed carefully so as to not wake the girls, and made my way to the training room. When I got there, Zephyr was still in his hero suit, the dark clouds covering his arms a contrast to the light blues and grays that make up his suit. His back was turned to me so I quietly walked up to him and wrapped my arms around his waist. He tensed but then relaxed into my touch rubbing my arms before turning in them to look at me. His storm gray eyes met my brown ones, he smiled and kissed my forehead. "Hi, starshine." I smiled at the nickname. "Hi, handsome, your back early I thought y'all weren't getting back until later."

"That was the plan but Max missed Lara, C.J. missed Karina, and I missed you, so we decided to finish early so we could see our girls."

"You missed me?"

"Yep, how could I not miss you, you are beautiful and I was also thinking about our date and just how adorable you are when you're focused, or catching me thinking about you." he ended the sentence with his lips on mine. We were interrupted by someone clearing their throat, I broke the kiss and looked at the door to see Max leaning up against the door frame. "Sorry to interrupt but I would like some sugar too but can't seem to find my girlfriend."

"Sorry, Max, the girls are in my room. We kinda had a sleepover last night."

"Thank you very much, please continue."

As he was leaving I remembered I had my suit specks in my pocket, "Max, wait." he stopped and turned to face me, I handed him the paper and he opened it, looked at it for a minute, then nodded and left in search of Lara.

"What was that?" Zephyr asked as I walked back over to him. Wrapping my arms around his neck, "Nothing just the specks for my suit and daggers." he nodded and dipped his head down kissing me again. He pulled away and said, "ok, I will see you later, we both have to get ready for our date." I smiled up at him as he kissed my forehead one last time before leaving to go get changed.
