Alt. Title: Nanami meets his future wife -- er, husband.

In fifth grade, Nanami Kento was called gloomy by everyone in school. Even the teachers would agree that Nanami could sometimes be a little... pessimistic for his age. He talks in a monotone voice and often became the target of ridicule by his peers. They called him boring and that Nanami was not fun to be friends with.

Despite how some kids try to include him into their group, Nanami's straightforwardness often offset everyone's excitement. Some mentioned that Nanami reminded them of their grandparents; Nanami gave them the impression that he was old-fashioned.

But that was not the case at all.

In fact, Nanami Kento... simply hated talking about stupid things. He would often ask questions inside his head.

Why were his classmates talking about toys instead of their homework?

Why did some of the boys talk badly about that one girl from the class two doors down, and even made fun of her during a joint PE class?

Why were they so concerned about how they acted in front of teachers and why did they have to pretend to be someone they were not?

It all appeared to be idiotic in his eyes. Nanami was not boring; he just did not believe that the topic of their conversations would pique his interest in any way. Fifth-grade Nanami figured out that topics not considered intelligent would touch his nerves.

Something about having nonsensical conversations grated his nerves and so, Nanami decided to avoid having such talks in the future to avoid getting upset all day. And, turns out, there was no one in school who could give him a conversation that he wants.

Everyone was stupid.

It was not his fault that he found them dumb.

Besides, Nanami did not mind not having any friends. It was much better than having headaches every single time he tried making small talks with kids.

Well, that was not until Nanami met him.

It was a few days before summer vacation so the heat from the sun glared more than usual. Just by climbing up the steps leading to the roof top already drained his strength. In their school, there was a garden on the roof top. Nanami liked spending time alone there; it was to get away from all those... idiots.

He discovered that place around the end of fourth grade so it had already been around a year since he found the place. So when he arrived there, finding an unknown sleeping boy lying down on the only bench; Nanami could not help but grow frustrated.

That was his place.

Where did the boy come from?

Nanami did not know if his arrival was too loud or if the boy slept lightly but the boy woke up in an instant. Grey eyes stared at him. They were like a shade of an offset white -- an alabaster in color. Nanami and that boy stared at each other in silence, not until the boy spoke up.

"... shoo, I like peace and quiet. You're not allowed here."

A nerve popped on Nanami's forehead.

Who does he think he is?

Nanami had always been going there so what gave the boy courage to drive him away? "That's my place."

"... well, um, it's mine now."

That was the first Nanami ever had the urge to push someone down the stairs.

How annoying.
