"I don't know what happened!" I groan as I push past the boys and fall on to their sofa. "Why did I do this."
"What have you even done?" Nick asks. "I got your message, but it didn't make much sense."
"I'm not making any sense today." I suddenly sit up, taking in the three boys sitting in front of me. It always amazes me how alike they look. I know it's stupid because they're triplets, but I always expect to see different faces. I've known them for seven years, and yet the faces looking back at me are not the ones they have in my brain.
"Care to explain?" Nick asks.
"My cousin's wedding is in a couple of weeks and she came round with my aunt to do the final touches, and they were doing the whole," I mimic my mum's voice, "you're getting old Jordyn, you'll lose your good looks and then you'll be stuck alone forever,"
"You're literally eighteen?" Chris interrupts and I can't help but laugh.
"All the women on my mums side somehow found their husbands at thirteen, so to them I am old and if I don't find a boyfriend by the great old age of twenty-two, no one will ever love me. But anyway, me being me. That's an idiot by the way. I tell them not to worry about it because I've actually got a boyfriend, we've just been keeping it on the down-low. So now I have a week to find a boy who's willing to pretend that I'm his girlfriend and come to my cousin's wedding as my plus one."
"And how old is your cousin?" Nick is almost hesitant to ask, and honestly I can't blame him. I love my family, but they're rather intense.
"She's nineteen. Turning twenty in three months."
"Well I'm happy to be your plus one," he smirks.
"My family is pretty dumb, but I think even they're switched on enough to work out I'm not your type."
"Well Matt's far to awkward to do it, and I don't think Chris' girlfriend would agree to it, so I'm your only hope."
"I'd do it." The quiet voice causes me to tear my gaze away from Nick and to instead turn to face Matt.
"You sure?" I ask with a raised eyebrow. Matt is one of the sweetest people I've ever met, but I'd hate for him to feel obliged to get him into this situation, especially with his anxiety. However, when I meet his eyes I'm greeted with a nod and his smile that can light up a room, and I dive at him. "Thank you so much Matthew."
"Yeah well," he pushes me off. "Guess we're stuck with you now."
"Guess so." I smile softly. "Oh yeah, I only got out of wedding planning because I urgently needed to tell the lucky guy he was to be my plus one, and my mum said he had to come round. So Matthew, care to join me for dinner?"
"What sort of a boyfriend would I be if I didn't," he chuckles
"But we were meant to be filming a video tonight," Chris interjects.
"And it can't be 'Matt bakes blind' without Matt." Nick explains, resulting in Matt turning to me, eyes softening, almost pleading for me to let him off.
"As long as I can be involved," I wink at them as I pull out my mobile and find my mum's contact number. After a few rings she picks up, "hey mum. Yes I know you're busy. Yes. No yes. I know. Mum listen to me!" I roll my eyes and keep quiet as she continues to shout at me for disturbing her whilst she's helping my cousin. When she finally stops I start to talk, "mum, i'm just ringing to say that Matthew won't be able to join us for dinner, he's filming a video for their YouTube channel. Yeah I'm staying with him. Don't yell at me, it just means you can work with Annie for longer. Okay yeah, love you too. See you tomorrow." I turn to the boys. "I've been kicked out my room so Annie can stay late, looks like I'm crashing here tonight."
"But will that be in mine or are you breaking tradition and sleeping in Matt's room?" I've stayed round the boy's house a lot, and I usually sleep in Nick's room. We're all good friends, best friends, but it's always been clear that Nick and I are a duo and then Chris and Matt are a duo. We tend to hang out as a big group, but if we ever do spend time with one person, I'm usually out with Nick whilst Matt and Chris are together.
"Don't be stupid Nick," the three of us say in unison, before letting out a small chuckle.
"Matt doesn't sleep with girls." Chris smirks
"Oh shut up, I do." Matt retorts, and I can't help the exchanged look with Nick. Neither of us can tell if he actually knows what he's admitting too. Deep down, I hope he's only saying it.
