I stare at him for a moment, that was not what I was expecting out of him. That isnt something I would expect from anyone in this bland little town. He just looks at me, he seems surprised that I havent said anything yet. But I just step back from him then turn around before retreating back toward the door.
"Sam, wait"
"Harrington!" I hear someone shout, I turn around to see Billy stomping toward Steve, he looks determined but it doesnt look good. I watch as Billy cocks his fist back and hits Steve square in the face. "I told you to stay away from her"
"She didnt pick you man," Steve lunges at him and all I can do is watch them fight. Billy starts swinging on Steve and he is swinging hard.
"Billy, man stop!" Jonathan comes running past me and pushes at Billy. Billy stumbles back at with a look at Jonathan. He scrunches his eyes up before his heavy breathing slows.
"Byers you keep your nose out of this." He scoffs "Or youll regret it." He stomps past me, he slams the door on his way out and I crouch down next to Steve. He looks up at me, his eye getting bigger by the second, he sighs
"Sam I am sorry"
"Youre the one who is sorry in this situation"
"Yeah I guess this is kind of your fault" I smile at him before I help him sit up. Jonathan comes over and kneels beside him,
"Come on man lets go get you something to help you" Jonathan pulls him up and they walk away from the crowd who is now watching all of the interaction between everyone. The music has been drowned out, and all I can think about it Steve and his swollen face. I didnt ask to be kissed tonight but it happened. I didnt ask for them to apparently be in love with me after one day but it apparently happened. I just wanted to stay home but I got roped into coming to this stupid party.
"I wanna go home" I mutter
"Do you want me to take you home?" I nod at her and she takes me outside with her. She stumbles a bit as we walk outside and I look over at her.
"Nancy you cant take me home youre wasted"
"I am just a bit tipsy thats all, I can take you home"
"I'll take her home" I look over to the dark silhouette who seems to have an interest in our conversation. The tall boy emerges from the shadows with his cigarette between his teeth, taking a long drag before blowing the smoke toward us. "Ironically, I havent had a thing to drink tonight"
"I'll walk" I say and Nancy lets out a giggle.
"Look I know I have quite a temper but I wouldnt want anything to happen to you, to either of you, let me drive you home, hell I'll drive you both home" Jonathan comes from behind us and stands up to Billy
"I havent drank either, I can take the girls home"
"Byers what did I say about not keeping your nose out of my business"
"You told me I'll regret it, but I would rather they make it home safely than to risk their lives. I watched you have like eight beers, unlike you I dont lie about drinking. Get out of the way dude" Jonathan pushes past Billy who just gives him a scowl and looks over at me. He rolls his eyes before stomping off to his car and slamming the door. He starts the car, revs the engine and speeds out of the driveway leaving dust flying everywhere.
"Nancy, Sam I can take you guys home now" I nod my head before following him to the car. He gets in and so does Nancy before starting the car and driving out of the driveway. The drive is long and quiet. Most of this due to the fact that I am trying to keep down the 'pure fuel' I had at the party. I am not quite sure how I feel about all this. This place is such a boring town yet tonight has left me incredibly curious.
