Chapter Six
I could feel something warm against my forehead, and I rolled towards it. Wherever I was, it definitely wasn’t warm. A cool breeze lifted the large shirt that covered my body, and I sighed with contentment. I could get used to this.
Used to what? I sat up quickly, knocking heads with someone who happened to be in the same bed as me! Holding my forehead, I peeked through my lashes, coming face to face with Kristopher. Great. And here I had been hoping that last night was a dream, albeit a great dream that had left me feeling as if my body was on fire, but still. A dream. Groaning as the memory of last night came flooding back, I flopped back onto the soft bed, trying to pull the covers up to my chin in an attempt to hide.
“Don’t hide from me; I like looking at you,” Kris whispered in my ear, leaning down to whisper this. I groaned again, pulling the covers up even higher and tucking my ears beneath it. This can’t be happening, can it?
“I’m not hiding. I’m merely tucking my ears beneath the covers. It’s cold,” I said simply, feeling my cheeks burn with embarrassment. Here I was lying naked in a bed next to a man who had, for the better part of a week before the full moon, kept me chained to a wall in a secret room. I looked up at him as he leaned back on his elbow, smiling down at me as he pushed a curl behind my ear. His finger trailed lower, trying to reach beneath the blanket, and I could feel my body tensing. I squeezed the covers against me, watching the light play across his face, and then listening for the growl I knew was coming.
“Don’t. I’ve seen you naked and writhing.”
“Wasn’t me.”
“It was you, Sofia. The animalistic you that hides beneath the wannabe human you. I saw you, and you can’t take it back. I marked you, and you’re mine.”
“Being yours because of a mark and being yours because I love you are two different things, Kristopher.” I can feel the anger boiling within me, and the urge to shift is almost too strong to ignore. Baring my teeth, I scoot back towards the wall the bed is pushed against. Kris moves forward, inching his body towards me and cornering me.
“Mark or not, you’re still mine, Sofia. I can smell your desire.”
“Not true. Maybe you’re sense of smell is off?”
“It’s not and you know it!”
“No, I don’t. I don’t know you enough to know if it’s off or not. Face it. We don’t know anything about each other. What’s my favorite color, Kris? What’s my mother’s name? What do I like to listen to? What do I do when I’m nervous, or tired, or lonely, or afraid?” I whispered the last part, lowering my eyes as I stare down at the white sheets. This place sure has a thing for neutral colors. I shiver as I feel Kris’s finger-tips on my chin, moving my head so that I was forced to look at him. I didn’t want to. The feelings that were coursing through my body would make me explode if I had to look at him. Damn-it…
The next thing I knew, I was pinned underneath him, listening to his growl in my ear. He placed tingling kisses along the base of my neck, making his way back up to my lips before crashing down on them again. The urge was too strong! I didn’t want this anymore than I had wanted to do this last night! I moaned, writhing against him and wrapping my legs around his waist. I couldn’t help it. Again.
“Kris?” The voice was timid, coming from the now open doorway, and he pulled away from me, moving his body off of mine and sitting up.
“Yeah Danny, what is it?”
“We’ve got trouble. Peter needs you out here now.”
“What’s going on?”
“Someone’s come to make a trade. They say that you’ve got something they want, and they’ve got something you probably want back.”
“What’s that mean?”
“I don’t know…” I moved my body closer to the wall, my heart racing as I run through the trails that I’ve left. They’ve come for me. And I can feel that something very wrong is happening right now. I look up, watching the two men as they talk quietly.
“Kris…I know who it is. And I know what they want.”
“Not now, Sofia.”
“KRIS!” I shouted his name, and Kristopher looked at me, his eyes blazing. He turned slowly to face me, Danny behind him with fear in his eyes. Looking down, I mumble my thoughts, and I can feel Kris’s anger. In less than a second, he is sitting on the bed, staring at me.
“What did you say?”
“I said that it’s…it’s…its Nickolas.”
“Who’s Nickolas?”
“He was my old pack Alpha; and he wants to trade for me.”
