It was as if everything went in slow motion, the scenery blurred as her eyes focused on one object: the car driving into a kid on the road. He couldn't have been more than fourteen years old. She didn't have to be a genius to realize that he was protecting what seemed to be his younger sibling from the collision. She watched helplessly, it all happened too fast. No one knew that this would happen. She heard people screaming 'Call the ambulance', but she knew in her heart that he wouldn't live long enough to see tomorrow. She felt it in her heart. Oh how easy it is for a life to be taken away in a blink of an eye. She didn't even know his name or who he is, but what she did know was that he was an heroic boy that sacrificed his life to save his sibling. She couldn't think of another way to leave to planet than to leave knowing that she would have saved a life, just like this young boy did. He probably knew that this would be his last moments to breathe, but he also knew that he'd rather die knowing that his sibling would live. To live the life he couldn't live.
Adrenaline crashed into her as she dropped the ground keeping her eyes on the already lifeless boy. She felt as if he heart was torn into pieces. Why? Why was she feeling like this? She doesn't even know him. But did she? Was there a moment in her life where she somehow connected with this person and had not realized it until now. The connection she felt was gone, just like the boy in front of her. Why? Why did he have to die? He probably had so much to live for. More than ever she felt alone in the world. Something wonderful, something precious has been stripped away from her. Tears burned down her face. She did not even think about blinking, too afraid that if she opened her eyes, he would be gone. She knew that his spirit had already left the body but she was not willing to accept it.
What must have been twenty minutes felt like an eternity when the ambulance finally came to take his body away from her. No they couldn't take him away. As much as she tried to move, gravity was certainly against her. Her body could not listen for it was as numb as her heart. Slowly her body started to shut down. The only thing that was active was her eyes that were still glued on the boy as the ambulance that took him drove away, leaving her behind.
"No... please, don't take him away from me," She whispered. For a second she held onto the hope that everything would be all right and that this was just a dream, but every minute felt like reality. She tried to fight back the pain that was dragging her down but every effort felt futile. Why was she fighting this? There was no hope left in her. With that, She let herself go,embracing the darkness.
She was floating in the dark abyss, feeling nothing It's so cold and lonely here. She opened her eyes but saw nothing. She felt a jolt of warm electricity run through her. What was this feeling? There it was again but this time it's stronger. She felt a shove. Was it possible to feel in this kind of place? There it was again. This time she heard something inaudible. She strained her ears to listen to the noise. It was getting louder and closer. Fear overtook her body. What was going on? That's when she heard the rumbling of a deep and worried voice.
"Skylar wake up." Something - no more like someone was shoving her urgently. She felt warms hands cup her face. She scrunched her face in confusion. She knew this voice, but who was it? She tries to fight against the darkness when she heard, "Baby please wake up, you're scaring me." A voice pleads. One name came to mind.
Eric. Oh my God, how could she have forgotten her husband? Her soul-mate? The one who made her heart beat faster, the one who always made her laugh no matter what. The one who loved her for all her faults. The one who never gave up on her and supported her. The one who gave her the reason to live.
