Maya
I sighed as I finally closed my laptop and slipped it into my bag. I got up and left my office. After getting everything done, I left the building.
It was cold and dark. I wrapped my coat around me and started to walk. I looked down and tried to make as little eye contact with strangers as possible.
My car broke down and Bella is sick today, so I have to walk home.
I was cold and shivering.
I was walking down the street heading towards my house.
Suddenly, I noticed a shadow a few meters away from me. I turned slightly and saw a man dressed in black walking right behind me. I couldn't see his face but I was scared. I didn't know how long this man was there, but I didn't like it.
After a while, I slowly increased my pace, getting faster with each step. The man behind me matched my pace and followed me constantly. My heart beat faster and faster. I was scared, very scared.
Nobody was there to help me. My eyes filled with tears. I quickened my pace, walked faster, but the man walked faster too. I could hear the man breathing heavily, like he was getting tired, but so was I. I was struggling to breath, my hands shaking.
I took a deep breath and swallowed before running. I ran and ran. I didn't know where. All I knew was to escape from this man who was chasing me the whole time. My tears ran down my face, I wiped them away to see where I was going.
When I was sure I'd lost him, I turned to see if the man was still behind me, but he was gone. And before I knew it, I ran into a hard chest.
I stumbled back, but the person grabbed my elbow. I was breathing heavily. My version was blurry. The person spoke to me, but I couldn't hear anything. My ears were ringing loudly.
He was following me. He was right behind me. I started to cry my eyes out. I can't anymore.
"Maya?!" A voice yelled my name.
That voice. I knew that voice. I wiped my tears and looked up and breathed out a sigh of relief when I saw Justin's worried face.
"Justin..." I exhaled heavily.
"Is everything okay? You are crying," he said worried. I turned around but saw no one on the empty street.
"I-I... I don't know..." I stuttered. I couldn't get the words out, way too out of breath from running. My hands were still shaking.
"Hey, take a deep breath... come on, let's do it together," Justin breathed in and out. I copied him. After a while I caught my breath. My heart was still beating like crazy.
"Better?" Justin asked me, his hands on my shoulders. I nodded and breathed a thank you.
"You look exhausted, sure you're alright?" Justin's eyes darted across my face as his hands caressed my arms.
