'Not everyone has the best relationship with their family. Some people do. Some people create a makeshift family with their close friends. I'm one of those people.'
My so-called family ended up kicking me out of the house at the early age of 16 after a...falling out to put it nicely. As the prepared person I am, I predicted this and had a plan set in place. That's where my makeshift family comes into play. Zack, my favorite emo boy (don't tell him I said that he will kick my ass) and my childhood best friend helped me out. He convinced his parents to let me move in with him and his family till we saved up enough money to get our own place.
Well kinda our own place... We found a small apartment building and took interest in it. Meeting the landlady gave us a heart attack, dont get me wrong Ms. Shiba was very sweet to let Zack and I live here at a discounted price. But you wouldn't be wrong to find her very overwhelming.
The place was small but had two rooms, a bathroom, and the main room. We didn't have very much furniture when we had first moved in. We had our two beds, a computer desk which was Zack's and a coffee table. We lucked out as the old home owners had left a washer and dryer along with a few brooms and a mop, if it was my guess they moved out and didn't want to go through the process to haul this stuff down the stairs. I can't blame them though, the stairs themselves were very sketchy. It took me a few years to stop falling down them, even now I still do sometimes.
When it came to the building we were the only ones who lived on the top floor. There were four rooms on the top floor and I assumed the same for the bottom floor. It's a very quiet place which could be off-putting at times. Sometimes you would hear the floorboards creak in the middle of the night.
It's strange to think we had come this far on our own. I thought that I would be one of those teenagers living on the street doing god knows what for food money. But I got lucky, I had good friends, a pretty good reputation around town too. I work at a cafe now along with Zack. We both are 21 and are taking online college classes, which gives us more flexible schedules for work, school, and home life. I help keep the apartments clean as per the agreement with Ms. Shiba, usually sweeping, mopping and vacuuming the vacant houses so they will be ready for future residents.

It was another peaceful day at the apartment. As usual I had gotten my school work finished earlier in the morning, taken care of the other apartments and now was chilling out in the living room scrolling through my phone with the tv running some anime shown in the background. Zack was at his parents house babysitting his little sisters, he wouldn't be back till late.
"I guess food isn't going to make itself... what should I eat? Hmm.." I stood in front of the refrigerator for a while looking at what we had. "I could make some ramen with some broth and rice balls." Nodding to myself I grabbed the necessary materials and started cooking. The delicious aroma filled the building making me more hungry as I was cooking.
"Zack doesn't know what he's missing." I talk to myself as I often do, grabbing a bowl from the cabinet along with some chopsticks I dished myself some of the delicious food.
*Knock Knock Knock* "Oh Y/N darling come outside I have some new neighbors for you to meet!" I paused, 'I know that voice.' shivering slightly I walk to the front door and open to see my lovely landlady Ms. Shiba. "Ms. Shiba! What a nice surprise."
"Y/n I'd like to introduce you to your new neighbors, these nice gentlemen are Sadao Maou and Shiro Ashiya." She moved to show the two males behind her. One of them had messy dark back hair and amber almost red colored eyes. The other had chin length blonde hair and had a golden brown eye color. These two were strange, they dressed in some weird clothing, it kinda looked like they were cosplayers but something told me that wasn't the case. They both had this terrified yet annoyed look on their faces, I suspected I knew why.
"Nice to meet you two, Im L/n Y/n I have a roommate named Zack sadly he isn't here to meet you." I introduced myself almost giggling to myself at their faces. "As you know, I take in others with unknown or complicated backgrounds. I'll have to ask you to help them out if they need it Y/n."
"Of course! I don't mind. You helped Zack and I when we moved here it would be wrong for us to not do the same. So please don't be afraid to ask for help." I say focused on the two mysterious men. They nodded, they seem to be rather silent but I can't blame them too much.
"That will be all from me take care you three." Ms. Shiba said as she walked away. "That reminds me, I just finished making myself some food, but I'll gladly give you some. I made a bit too much for just myself and I'd hate for it to go to waste." I offer to Maou and Ashiya. They seemed to talk to themselves in a language that oddly sounded familiar.
"If it would be ok with you L/n we would like to take you on the offer." Maou had finally replied. "Yea of course, come on inside." I gestured for them to follow me inside. "You have a lovely home Miss Y/n, you and your roommate must work hard." Ashiya said admiring the house. I took a moment to look around. He's right, we worked our asses' off to make our home lovely. We now had couches in the living room we had a TV, and a game console along with some pillows at the coffee table for us to eat at. I smiled.
"Thank you Ashiya, it took a long time for this place to look this nice, and no need for the formality just call me Y/n." He nodded. I walked over to the stove and grabbed some more bowls and chopsticks and came back to them with three bowls filled with ramen and rice balls balanced on my arms as I was so used to doing at the cafe and set them down on the coffee table. The two seemed shocked at this. "What shocked I can balance it so easily?" I laughed when they nodded in response. "I work at a cafe in town so I'm used to doing this. You should come by some time when I'm working." I sit myself down at the table ready to eat.
"We certainly will have to. Thank you for inviting us to eat it is rather nice of you." Maou had said already digging into the food along with Ashiya. "No worries. It's been awhile since someone has had my cooking other than the customers or Zack." As I finished my sentience I started to dig in myself. 'This is nice, maybe it won't be so lonely around here anymore.'
We had finished eating after a while, Ashiya and Maou thanked me once again for the food and went on their way back to their room. 'That was nice.' I smiled to myself as I finished cleaning the dishes.
