Steve stumbled out from the door of his bedroom, trying to stuff his legs into a pair of old jeans while simultaneously brushing his teeth. He had woken up late for work. Again. This had become a daily routine for him, since his life had been a complete mess after spring break.
Everyone had been on their last nerves, trying to look out for a sign that Vecna was ready to fight, and Steve was backed up with helping Eddie become a part of society again. Most people still thought he was a killer, especially since Jason was missing. The one thing that proved Eddie wasn't the cause of the deaths was Steve bringing an injured Eddie into the hospital.
Once everyone realized it was going to be a while until Vecna was healed, so everyone attempted to go on with their life for the time being. Eleven, Will and Mike had stayed together most of the time, and they were the only ones who were on the lookout. Steve and Robin worked overtime for the past 7 months, and Lucas practically lived at the hospital. Dustin would occasionally company his to visit Max, but he mostly spent his time at Family Video with Steve. Eddie was trying to get a job, but it had been hard with the amount of people thought he was a murderer.
Sometimes, Steve got flashbacks to when his mood switched from happy that they 'defeated' Vecna, to immediately terrified as he saw Dustin crouched over Eddie, sobbing as he laid almost dead in his lap. Steve remembered dropping the weapons he had in his hands, running towards the two, not caring that he left Robin and Nancy behind. He did all he can to try and save Eddie, but Dustin's sobs and Robin blabbering conflicted with his attempt to keep Eddie alive.
Luckily, they made it out of the Upside Down and to hospital before the illusion of an earthquake overcame Hawkins, which was the gates opening. Steve remembered anxiously waiting in the quiet waiting room, gaining looks from the people who saw him bring Eddie in. The front desk phone rang, and a deep voice said, "Were bringing in an Adolescent, bones broken and clinically dead for over a minute. We are also arriving with the callers. Go by the names 'Erica Sinclair' and, 'Lucas Sinclair'." Steve felt his heart drop even more. His breath became quick, anxious thoughts filling his head.
And then the doors busted open, Max being rushed into a hospital room. The floor shook, people screaming as things fell off of shelfs, the sound of glass breaking spreading throughout the waiting room.
That was one of the most stressful days of Steve's life.
Steve ran out his front door, heading straight for his car. He was already twenty minutes late, and he knew he was going to get shit from Robin as soon as he got there. He flung the car door open, jumping in and slamming it. He fumbled with his keys, then shoving it into the ignition as backing out of his driveway. His breath was rushed, his face red from running all throughout his house.
He drove throughout Hawkins, taking as many shortcuts as he could so he could get there sooner. Unluckily for him, he was soon met with horrible traffic. Steve sighed, throwing his head back and gripping the steering wheel. "Fuck!" He screamed, pulling at his own hair.
And then he looked up.
His eyes glanced at what was causing the traffic, and stared right at an ambulance, its lights blaring as nurses and police officers ran back and forth. In the middle of all the chaos, surrounded by cop cars and firetrucks was a van, its front crushed while it laid on its sign. His eyes noticed the details of the van: A piece of art messily spray painted on, and a very memorable license plate that said, "RCKR4LFE".
"Eddie."
Steve felt himself open his door, not even waiting to close it before he began sprinting towards the accident. "Hey! That's my friend!" He screamed, waving his hand, but was unsuccessful in notifying anyone there. As he got closer, he felt himself jump over the caution tape and run towards the ambulance, but was stopped but firm hands grabbing onto him.
"Stop! Please let me see him! I know him!" Steve struggled the get out of the grasp, kicking and shoving before he gave up, almost falling to the ground. "Kid, you are unauthorized to be here." Steve looked up the see that a police officer was the one holding onto him, his stare firm and strong. "Please sir. Let me see him. I'll pay for the ambulance if that's what get's me to ride with him." Steve blurted out, pleading the officer.
The man hesitated for a second, before Steve heard a raspy and broken voice calling out, "Steve!" He looked over as saw Eddie laying on a cot, his arms slightly reaching out to him. The hands let go of Steve, and he started running over to Eddie, the same feeling he felt when Eddie almost died overcame his body, and tears began run down his cheeks. Eddies calls became louder by the second, and one of the paramedics tried to stop him, but Steve got the before they could and pushed them out of the way, grabbing onto the hand Eddie was reaching out.
"Oh god. Are you alright? Please tell me you are." Steve whispered, but only received as small, "What's happening Stevie?" Eddie's voice broke him, and started choking on tears, his body shaking. One of the paramedics pushed him out of the way, causing him to land onto the floor. Steve didn't even try to get up as he broke down, his body curling into a ball as Eddie was pushed into the ambulance, the doors about to close before a woman stopped them, walking towards Steve.
She crouched down, looking Steve in his teary eyes. "Hey, your friends gonna be alright, m'kay?" She reached down, holding out hand towards Steve. "Why don't you come with us."
Steve soon found himself in the ambulance, standing over a weary Eddie, his eyes opening and closing every couple of seconds. He put his hand onto Eddie's forehead, pushing his bangs out of his eyes. The fear somehow faded from his bod, a low mumble of "You're so pretty." came from Steve's mouth.
