1st September 1971

First rays of sunshine made their way into the room, lazily sliding on the walls. It was almost 5am in the morning and Remus was wide awake, lying on his back and listening to birds' twitter. He flipped a page of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" by Newt Scamander, finding himself on the last chapter. He started reading about classification of fantastic beasts created by the Ministry of Magic, reading the words carefully. It's been six months since he found out that he was going to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and he decided to read all the books he possessed, before the beginning of his magical education. He didn't want to fall behind, as he was certain that most of the kids were probably familiar with magic since they were born. It turned out that Remus had incredible memorizing skills and reading information two times was nearly enough for him to remember by heart whatever it was that he read.

The train to Hogwarts was leaving at 11am, so Remus still had plenty of time even though he wanted to reach his destination as early as possible. After flipping throughout a chapter of "An A-Z of Fantastic Beasts", he decided to grab a book dedicated for Charms classes. He kneeled on the floor and opened a lid of his trunk, finding the book he was looking for under some of his regular clothes. He opened it on a random chapter and started reading it. Remus has already been through that book before, but he decided to try casting spells.
"The Wand-Lighting Charm is simple but requires concentration. Take care not to accidentally set your wand alight as damage of this kind can be permanent. If in any doubt about your abilities, you would do better to buy yourself a magic lantern," Remus read quietly and searched for a box with his wand. Once it was found, he took a wand out of the box and threw it on a bed, grabbing a wand with his right hand. Then he slowly went through the instruction and looked at the wand.
"Lumos," he then said quietly but nothing happened. A boy frowned and tried again, a little louder and a tip of his wand created a bright light. Remus smiled as widely as he could, looking at the light. He has never been so proud of himself and the fact that he casted his first real spell was almost overwhelming. He quickly cast a countercharm and the light vanished as if it was never there.
"Well done, Remus," he heard and turned around, looking at his father standing in the door frame. "You can also cast Lumos Maxima so that the light is brighter and bigger."
Remus felt like a deer in the headlights, so he put the wand away and got up to hug Lyall. They lay together on a bed and Remus asked his father to tell him about Hogwarts once again. Remus had been questioning him for months and everything he's heard of so far still wasn't enough for him. Lyall grabbed his wand and waved it, creating an image above their heads. Remus recognised a Great Hall in it and watched it closely, trying to remember every single detail.

After a while, Hope knocked on the door, telling Remus to get dressed and come down for breakfast. Lyall moved Remus' trunk downstairs with his wand, placing it on a small trolley. Remus got up quickly, accidentally knocking down one of the pillows on the floor. He grabbed it and noticed a small piece of paper lying on the ground. He narrowed his eyes and bent down, taking a paper in his hand. He looked at the words and recognised lyrics he once heard in front of the music store. Remus had a few more opportunities to go shopping with his parents but he never got a chance to see that musician on the display TVs ever again. He decided to take the paper with him, so he put it between the pages of the book with charms that he forgot to put inside the trunk. Once Remus got dressed, he grabbed a beige bag and put the book inside it, heading downstairs. They ate breakfast together and looked through Remus' trunk for the last time to make sure that he had everything that he needed.
