Monday, 1st November 1971
Remus felt shaking on the arm and opened his eyes momentarily, withdrawing his wand and placing it on intruder's neck as he was in the middle of his new nightmare. Recently he kept dreaming of the wizarding world and You-Know-Who barging into his parents' house and killing them. He has never seen that wizard, but he always imagined him having a tall, slim, and scarily erect posture with long, slimy fingers and a terrifying expression on his face.
Hope and Lyall still haven't replied to young Lupin's letter, and he started worrying even more, creating worse and worse scenarios in his head. His friends kept reassuring him that owl's post usually worked like that unless they had their own owl for correspondence. Every time he'd heard those words, he only sighed, hoping that they were not wrong.
"It's me it's me!!" Sirius exclaimed with his hands up. Remus breathed out with relief and pulled his wand away, lifting himself up to a sitting position.
"What are you doing here? It's two in the morning," he asked, getting up and withdrawing a curtain a little, checking whether the rest of his friends were awake.
"Yeah, I know. Sorry about that," Black replied, scratching the back of his neck. Remus crossed his arms and raised his eyebrows, waiting for an explanation from his black-haired friend.
"So? What's up?" he asked finally as Sirius was looking around impatiently without saying a word.
"I've got something to show you," he said and nodded his head in the opposite direction, then withdrawing the curtains to leave Remus' space.
"Hurry up then," Remus yawned and rubbed his eyes lazily. "I'm sleepy."
"But we need to go outside!" Sirius 'exclaimed' quietly and turned around to make sure he didn't wake up Peter and James. Then he headed to Potter's bed and quietly opened his trunk, pulling out the Invisibility Cloak. "Let's go."
Remus decided not to ask any further questions and went under the cloak, letting Sirius lead the way. The first boy slowly opened the door, and they quickly went downstairs, heading to the painting of the Fat Lady. Hearing her snoring, the boys luckily managed to slip out and headed towards the Grand Staircase.
"Lumos," Sirius whispered as they headed to Turris Magnus and then up on the third floor, soon walking through the Serpentine Corridor.
"What are we doing here anyway? And why didn't you wake up James and Peter?" Remus asked finally, confounded as they passed classrooms.
"Come on, stop slacking," Black hurried him, not answering any of Lupin's questions. Finally, he stopped abruptly, making Remus bump at him. "This would've been easier with a map."
He took off the cloak and came up to a huge, stony statue of one-eyed witch. She was ugly with a mean expression on her face, had a hump on her back and was holding a rod in her right hand.
"Gunhilda of Gorsemoor," Remus sighed in awe, looking up. "Did you know she was a Healer? She's found a cure for dragon pox!"
"She's given us many blessings, then," Sirius snorted with laughter and withdrew his wand. "Check this out!"
