Chapter Three
Sophie was lying on her bed and staring up in the sealing. She hadn’t come out for days, her thoughts occupied with the fact that he had protected her. She knew very well what the punishment for lying towards her father was big, maybe even death. But the reward was rich and almost everyone wanted it. There was a nock and Snape appeared in the door frame. “Do you want to come down?” He asked, hoping she would. Sophie shrugged and got up and fallowed him down the stairs.
A man with silvery hair was waiting for her downstairs and she froze when she saw the headmaster. “Good morning Sophie.” He greeted her. She nodded and made a small smiled towards him. Sophie took her usual seat at the kitchen table and Snape placed the food in front of her. He had almost had to force the food down her throat lately, since she refused to eat when she wasn’t starving. He guessed she was trying to punish herself, but in reality it was him who deserved it.
She shoved it away with one hand as usual, but this time he wasn’t letting it go. “Eat.” He ordered, but she shook her head. Dumbledore just stood there and observed. “Trust me I will force it down your throat if you don’t eat it.” Sophie shook her head again and Snape had began losing his temper. “Severus, calm down.” The headmasters voice made them both jump. “Sophie, if you would so kindly eat the bread so I could get to my point?” The headmaster half ordered kindly. Sophie grumbled before shoving it into her mouth. But the second it touched her tongue, hunger overwhelmed her and soon she had eaten the other one. Snape handed her his plate with sandwiches to and she took them gratefully, eating them in one go.
Dumbledore smiled and waited for her. “Now, what I was going to say is that I think you should go back to Hogwarts.” She froze dead silent and swallowed. She shook her head violently. “No, no, I am not doing it.” She stated. Dumbledore sighed. He pulled out a parchment from his robe and handed it to her. “I wish it didn’t have to come to this.” He said regretfully. Sophie opened it and read it out loud:
“To Miss Sophie Riddle, 06594 Azkaban prison
The Ministry has requested for your return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. By the behalf of the wizard law nr. 234. If you do not return within two days we will have no other solution than to send you back to Azkaban prison.
Your sincerely
Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic. “
“They can’t do that.” She mumbled under her breath. “I am afraid they can.” “But they hate me.” She protested towards Dumbledore. He didn’t say anything against her statement and it only made her feel worse. “I-I have to go.” She mumbled and flew out into the November air. They couldn’t do that to her, they just couldn’t. Why would anyone do such a thing. Why…?
After a few hours Snape went out to begin looking for her. He found her under a tree by the river, close to the old fabric. He handed her a blanket before sitting down next to her. She quickly wiped her tears away and sniffled. “I am sorry.” He said after a while. “It’s not your fault Sev.” She mumbled. Snape’s face automatically lit a little bit up from the sound of the nick name. The thought of Lily calling him that once, had escaped his mind. “No it is.” He sighed. Sophie shook her head. “I wanted to blame you, really I did. But-…” She paused and looked up at the sky. “It doesn’t change the fact who I am.”
“I probably sound very much like Dumbledore when I am saying this, but… No you aren’t. It’s what we do that makes us who we are, not the other way around.” Sophie grinned at him and nudged him in the side. “Thanks.” After a few seconds in silence she added. “And yes, that did sound scaring much like Dumbledore.”
The next day everything was packed and they were on their way back. The train ride was silent and Sophie was awfully quite. Before she came to Hogwarts she didn’t know anything about friendship or about anything. Now losing everything hurt more than ever. But suddenly the train came to a holt. Sophie looked out the window and saw they were half way over the bridge. Suddenly everything became cold and chilliness entered the train. She swallowed and looked worriedly up at Snape.
The window got covered in frost and a fog covered her view for what might be out there. The compartment door slid aside and a cloaked figure came to view. She didn’t have the time to think. Everything became blank. Almost every memory she had were bad, they sort of overwhelmed the good ones. It got closer and she heard somebody scream, a woman. Before everything became black.
When she opened her eyes again Snape was looking concerned down at her. Her head was spinning and she was laying on one of the grey seats. “Here, you should eat this.” He handed her a piece of Chocolate and she took a small bite of the tip. They had began moving again and she sat up. “W-Why was it there?” She stuttered, but already knew the answer…Fudge.
When they came to the platform, again the chilly feeling approached. But this time she was ready. A silver phoenix burst out of her wand before she could even say the words. She sprinted out of the train and was met by Fudge and several auror’s. An angry looking Dumbledore were there to. “I am sorry Dumbledore, but the Ministry has no choice.” He spoke, but stopped when he saw Sophie creating the petronus shield. Anger flashed through her eyes and it was enough to make Fudge take a step back. “Is this the only reason you wanted me to come back, so you could trick me!?”
“You know very well the prize to pay for being a death eater.” Fudge spoke up, but not to confident. Some of the auror’s had taken a step forward, but they looked a bit unsecure for what to do next. “Oh yeah, like that was my choice.” She growled back at him. “Come with us now, and no one will get hurt.” Fudge had gotten back his voice now and took a step forward. “No!” she shrieked and this time it was her who stepped away. “In fact I don’t want to see you again, EVER!” With a crack she was gone and all who was left was Sophie’s black wand lying on the ground. Fudge bent down hesitantly and picked it up. How?
