Jenna sat in the pew behind her uncle and Mikey's grieving family. She sat with Ava, her five year old cousin, Ava's head on her lap waiting for it to be all over.Jenna Jerimovich had know the Berzatto family since she was born. Her uncle Richie was Mikey's best friend which meant they were apart of her family.
Her own father had been incarcerated most of her life. Her grandmother raised her until her death five years prior leaving Jenna basically an orphan at eighteen unless you count her abrasive creepy Uncle Richie and at the time Aunt Tiff as her parents.
The one less creepy uncle she could count on was Mikey. Mikey had been kind and charming, always down to tell a story and overall a great guy, minus the pills of course. He joked about her feelings about his brother almost daily when she was a child. Always telling her to "go tell bear he doesn't know his head out of his ass half the time.", but she never actually told Carmy her crush on him. After all Carmen was older and already off to New York by the time she was a sophomore.
Now Mikey was gone. He would no longer be able to tease her about Carmen or tell her about the crazy nights her uncle and him got up to. He wouldn't be able to eye up her boyfriends or laugh at her when she would show up at the beef hungover as hell and wanted greasy food. She couldn't understand why he did what he did.
As the guests went up to pay their respects to the Berzatto family Jenna waited in line Richie in front of her and Ava at her side.
That's when her eyes were drawn to him. Carmen. She wasn't that kid anymore with a school girl crush, yet Carmen did look hot as hell even at a funeral, she just really wanted him to be okay.
When it was her turn she hugged Mrs. Berzatto first then Sugar and even Pete then she got to Carmy.
"I'm so sorry carebear."
Carmy chuckled at his nickname as he hugged her. He had been so out of it, in his own head, he didn't even know who he was hugging until she spoke.
"Butterfingers."
He smirked at the girl woman standing in front of him. She was all grown up and not that annoying sophomore he hugged goodbye when he left.
His hand reached Jenna's rubbing small circles on her smooth skin, a soothing trait he picked up, when he met her eyes. They were the same yet so broken.
Broken like he was.
"You look all grown up."
Truth be told the last time Carmy had seen her was probably around the time of her grandmothers death. Jenna and him were family friends but never really close as he hit puberty and she was merely a child still.
Yet Jenna was always around to annoy him. Sugar told him it was sweet but Carmy never felt that way. But at that moment when Jenna squeezed his hand as she gave a smile and walked away Carmen knew that he always had a soft spot for her.
