The light seeping through the two windows are what woke me up this morning. Last night after watching some tv with Chelsea, I came upstairs and read before eventually falling asleep.

As of now, I just finished my shower and went downstairs to see what my family was up to. My dad sat at the table reading a newspaper and my mom was sitting on the couch painting her toenails. "Morning," my dad said as I poured a bowl of cereal. "What are today's plans?" I looked up from my cereal and stared at him as he looked at me expectantly. I just shrugged, "Whatever you guys are doing I guess." All he did was chuckle saying, "I'm not sure you want to help with the yard work but it's totally acceptable if you do. Your mom's planting a garden out back. Tomatoes and strawberries I think." I scrunched my nose in response.

"Or you could come fishing with me?" Phil spoke as he came down the stairs. "I'm going to that old spot dad and Uncle Jim used to take me. Come on, it'll be fun," he finished. It would save me from wasting my day here. If I were to stay, my parents would expect me to help out. "Okay, let me go change," I told him before putting my dirty dishes in the dish washer. I sprinted up the stair case and entered my room. I changed out of everything I was wearing and into a swimsuit with some shorts and a white tank top. I'm not much of a fisher so I may as well spend some time in the water. I brushed my teeth then slipped on some flip flops that I kept near my door.

"Ready?" Phil asked. "Yeah," I replied. We left the house and began to walk to the other side of the lake a few blocks away. As we walked, we made small talk. It took about fifteen minutes until I recognized that we were getting close.

"So what do you think of that Niall guy I had over last night?" He asked out of the blue. "He seems pretty cool. Why?" I asked. "Because I kind of invited him too," and just about that exact moment, I turn to see Niall waving at us from the spot. He had two fishing poles in his hands, I assume for both he and Phil.

"Hey Phil! Hi Jennifer," Niall spoke as we approached. "You didn't tell me she was coming. I would've brought another pole if I had known." He said, staring between the two poles. "It was kind of last minute, sorry. She'll be fine." Phil told him. Niall looked at me with an apologetic look on his face. "You're okay?" He asked me. "Oh yeah. I suck at fishing anyways." This made Niall laugh. "Maybe I can teach you, yeah?" I smiled and agreed.

At this point in time, I sat and watched the two as they prepared. I never knew what they were doing because I had always skipped out on these trips to go shop with my mom.

"Could you bring the bate over here please," my brother asked me. I picked the styrofoam bale up and brought it over to them. "Is the what you guys toss into the water to try and lure the fish into this general area?" I asked which caused Niall to burst into a fit of laughter. "What?" I asked as Phil looked at me with a seemingly disappointed look. "How are we even related? No Jennifer, that'd be stupid. This is what you attach to the end of the fish hook. This is what attracts the fish to the hook," he declared. I put my hands up in defense, face burning red in embarrassment. "Sorry! I've never fished in my life." Niall looked over at me. "I can tell," he said and I playfully hit him on the arm before walking back to my original spot.

They attached the bate to the hooks and started the fishing process. Every once in a while, they'd claim they had a catch only to reel it in to see the fish had gotten the bate without attaching itself to the hook. I'd laugh at their failure every time.

"Stop laughing!" Niall said.

"No, this is too funny! You guys suck!"

"Like you could do any better!" He said.

"Watch me," I replied walking over and grabbing the pole from his hands. Woah this was big, I could barely hold it properly. After attempting to attach the bate for five minutes, Phil ended up putting it on for me. Excuse me for not wanting to touch a wet, squirmy minnow.

I honestly don't know why I thought I should do this. I couldn't fish if my life depended on it. Maybe I did it to impress Niall? What was I thinking? Eventually, I put the string behind me over my shoulders, ready to sling it. I knew already that I'd catch nothing because my form was so improper and I have no patience for a fish I'll never catch. Three deep breathes and five readjustments later, I finally did it. And what did I catch? Not a fish, but a tree.

"Oh my gosh! I didn't mean to," I said through laughter. Phil was laughing so hard that his face turned four shads redder than usual. Niall laughed as well and then I remembered that that was his pole. What if it was important to him?

"Niall, I'm so sorry about your pole. I can help try to get it down?" I said after regaining myself. He seemed fine with it which meant it probably wasn't too significant to him.

"Yeah, that'll be great."

I ended up getting onto Phil's shoulders trying to reach the pole. My hand got so close to it but Phil wasn't quite tall enough. Next thing I know, I'm on Niall's shoulders now because apparently he's an inch or two taller. This time, I grasped onto the fishing pole and then he let me down. I handed it to him and he inspected it.

"It's broken," he started. My face fell. "But it's okay! Don't worry about it. Wasn't that important anyway. My dad has a couple more we could use next time," he said after he saw how I reacted. The use of next time made me smile. "I could help pay for a new one if you'd like." He only shook his head. He kind of shook it off like it never happened.

"Wanna stick our feet in the water some?" Phil suggested. Of course I said yes. Once we got near the water, I took off my tank top and shorts because I didn't wear this cute swimsuit under my clothes for nothing. Plus I could tan a little.

"Hey Niall, I dare you to eat one of the minnows!" I said. I didn't really expect him to do it but moments later, he did. "I didn't think you'd have the balls to do it! That's disgusting!" I told him. From then on, the three of us sat and talked. We mostly talked about how we started going to the lake and why we kept coming. Phil even told him about the time I was twelve and taking a shower. I saw this huge spider then screamed causing my whole family to run into the bathroom. My dad ran in first and yanked the shower curtain open exposing my entirely naked body to everyone including my siblings. I was twelve, I barely had boobs then I would say every time someone reminded me of that time.

After spending so many hours fishing and watching Niall attempt tons of dares, we decided we should head home. It was passed lunch time and we were all hungry. As we were walking, Niall suddenly stopped me. He pointed towards my right so of course I fell for it and looked. I screamed and jumped as I realized he had put a minnow down the back of my tank top. "Niall! Why the hell did you do that!" I yelled after him. He only laughed along with Phil. After the laughter died down, I looked up at Niall. "Again, I'm sorry about your pole."
