{ a new hello }

my day passes through and the last bell is about to ring. i have chemistry class with lonnen, and today we barley talked to each other. he seemed shy and irritated. he's probably mad i didn't answer any of  his texts.

i gather my bag and go up to my teachers desk.

"hey, can i go to the bathroom? it's an emergency." i say calmly. i just wanted to get out of class earlier, used that trick about 5 times this school year already.

i walk down the hallway past teachers to the bathroom and wait till i can roam around again. i stand at the entrance of the bathroom on my phone scrolling through my homescreen so it looks like i'm on it. i was about to put my music on before i hear someone come up to me with a subtle "hey."

i look and see raine in front of me, his glasses back on his face. he wore a pretty smile on his face. he was a lot taller than me standing up and i never realized it.

"well hey." i say smiling back at him.

"how uh was your day?" he says putting his hands into his pants pockets.

"boring honestly, but at least i didn't fall asleep." i say with a cheesy smile and laugh. i watch his eyes flutter towards the ground and his smile widen more, his cheeks getting pink.

"survivor." he laughs.

"i'm currently waiting for my brother to get me cause he wants to hangout with me for once or some shit." i say rolling my eyes.

"sibling bonding is important, i hope you have fun." he smiles.

"me too. thanks." i say shyly, furrowing my eyebrows.

"so uh, you got plans this weekend?" he says looking at me slightly with a grin on his face.

"why do you ask?" i slightly laugh.

"i can't be a gentleman and ask how a lady will spend her next 48 hours?" he giggles, folding his hands together. he did it again, something no one's ever said to me before. it was cheesy and weird but also intriguing and funny. he was sweet and kind and unique and it was his best trait.

"well, i suppose." i smile. "i don't really know yet, how about you?"

"not sure either." he says pulling his phone out of his pocket. "why don't we exchange numbers and if we're bored out of our fucking minds we could hangout or something." he smiles, handing his phone over to me.

"i'd have to be sooo bored to want to hangout with you." i say sarcastically rolling my eyes. i grab his phone and give him mine. i open his contacts app and see there's very few, just looks like his mom, dad, siblings and relatives. my phone was fluttered with peoples numbers. i hit create new contact and put my name in. 'melaina hekabe :)' i put in before turning off his phone and handing it back to him.

he starts to smile before turning off my phone and handing it back to me. we look at each other in the eyes for a moment. like we were searching for something. i watch his eyes flutter away to something else and he licks his lips.

"well uh, i'll text you. i have a family dinner soon that i gotta be at so i'll catch ya." he says putting out a hand to shake mine.
