The years flew by, with missions that would in time, make that original crew a legend; however, for those that experienced it they were simply trying to live, explore and expand humankind's knowledge. One evening, about six months from the ending of their first five year mission, Maggie walked into their quarters utterly exhausted from that day's shift - all she wanted was a hot sonic and a night spent in her partner's arms. Their quarters were oddly quiet. Maggie called out a tentative "Monty?" to which a hand with a glass full of ale rose up from the couch, "Here lassie" came a slurred voice. Maggie went from utter exhaustion to deep apprehension in a moment, Monty rarely got drunk. In fact, she could count on one hand the number of times he had, and those had been in response to traumatic away missions (like when they were sent to a mirror universe or he had been accused of several murders on Argelius II .)

She slowly sat next to him, asking in a tentative voice, "Monty, love, what's wrong?" He looked at her, with his beautiful brown eyes full of pain and his palm coming to caress her check. "Oh my sweet Maggie, this mission ends in just a few short months. I was thinking about how once we get off this ship, there will be dozens of men who are younger, and more fit to be with ye - physically, and mentally...I just dunna know what I would do if ye left me, which I am certain ye will." With that he took another deep swig of the ale. Maggie sat in stunned silence, her mouth agape, looking at Monty as if he were from some alternate timeline. Then fury rose in her green eyes and her cheeks flushed scarlet, as she hissed out, "How dare you Monty! How dare you think so little of me or of yourself that you think I would leave you the first moment I got! With all that we've been through the past four and half years you think I would leave you for some mealy mouth twit who most likely would want to bed me because I served with Kirk and Pike?! How dare you think so little of me! You forget Monty, I dated plenty before I met ye - yes I knew they weren't my soulmate but I wanted to make damn sure when I met him or her I would be ready. Monty, you are the one of the most intelligent men I have ever known. No one can hold a candle to your brilliance in engineering. The articles and manuals you've written have advanced ships engines and designs more than I can comprehend. Tonight, though, you take the cake for stupidity. I don't have the mental or physical energy to deal with this tonight, so we are sleeping separately. We can talk about this in a couple days when you have sobered up and I have cooled down." With that Maggie stood up, grabbed her pajamas from a drawer and for the first time in over four years slept alone in her quarters, with silent tears running down her face.

Maggie sat at her desk, unable to focus on the task at hand. She told herself it was because the mission was ending in a few months but she knew she was lying to herself. She came out of her trance when she heard her doors open and saw Len enter with the "look" in his eyes.
"Alright darlin', you've been here moping for the past two days - don't deny it! I am not leaving your office till we get this cleared up. I can't have the other CMO making foolish errors because her head's somewhere else, and if I had to make an educated guess with a certain foolish Scotsman who's been acting the same way."

Maggie shook her head, sighed and then told Len had transpired between the two, a couple days earlier. Maggie ended her story with a "For someone as intelligent as he is, Monty can be a real idiot!"

Len let out a soft snort, then responded softly, "Oh Maggie, I cannot tell you how often I've felt like Scotty. I look at Jim, at Spock, and think 'How in the hell was the universe so good to me that I got two men like this? Why would these two intelligent, gorgeous men who have their whole lives in front of them want a damaged doctor from Georgia with a daughter to boot?' They look at me, much the same way I'm sure you looked at Monty, and tell me through words and deeds how much they love me. Unlike you and Monty, we have the added bonus of Vulcan mind voodoo magic to help us communicate. Heaven knows you've sat through enough sessions with all three of us to know we've made right asses of ourselves sometimes. What I'm trying to say here Maggie, is that I understand how you feel and I certainly understand how Monty feels. This was bound to happen, especially with the end of the mission coming up. Go to him, Maggie, get this sorted out before any real, lasting damage is done. You saw what happened to Jim when Chris had that horrific accident, I don't want that happening to either one of you."

Maggie looked at Len with awe, "Thank you Len, with your usual grace(here Len snorted) you've told me to get my head out of my ass." She reached over her desk to take his hand, "Thank you, I really don't know what I would have done without you - both professionally and personally."
"Well I ain't dead yet but I appreciate it all the same. Much like with Jim and Spock, I think the universe knew what it was doing when it put us together." Maggie nodded her head in agreement, then stood up, "Well, I better go find that foolish Scotsman so we can get on with the rest of our lives."

She walked quietly through the halls, until she found herself outside of engineering, Ensign Kelly looked up and nodded a hello. Maggie nodded back and put a finger to her lips in a shushing motion, she wanted to surprise Monty who was at the warp drive, fiddling and making improvements. She wrapped her arms around his middle, stood on her toes and whispered, "Doubt thou the stars are fire; Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love." He turned around with a grin big enough to get the Enterprise to warp 10, swung her around and buried his face in her neck before whispering, "Ack lass I've been a damned fool and missed ye something fierce." The pair had fought before (she would have been terrified if they hadn't) but there was something about this argument that had outshone the rest and it had terrified them both—they could sense this had been a make or break moment. With her chin resting on his chest, her green eyes boring into his brown, she whispered, "Monty, since you only have a few minutes left of shift, let's go back to our quarters, and make up for lost time." Monty gave a quick nod in agreement, and with their arms around each other's waist they quickly made their way back to their quarters.

A few hours later, body's gleaming with the sheen of their make up sex, Maggie had her head resting on his chest, hand playing with his chest hair, while his arm was around her shoulder slowly rubbing up and down her arm, their sheets pooled around their waists. Giving a kiss to his chest, Maggie sat up and faced Monty - her naked body fully exposed to Monty's appreciative eyes. He followed her example and sat up fully resting against the headboard, lower body still covered by their sheets.

She took his hand in his and stared at their entangled hands a moment before she spoke. "Monty, when you disparaged yourself two days ago it broke my heart, it made me realize that perhaps I hadn't performed my duty as well as I should have as your partner and soulmate." Monty opened his mouth as if to protest and say it was his own stupidity, but before he could utter a sound Maggie put a finger to his lips to shush him. "No love, let me finish. Montgomery Scott, I love you with every fiber and atom of my being. You and only you. You are the literal other half of my soul. The first moment I met you in my office almost five years ago, I was bowled over by your stunning good looks and that I had access to this body for the rest of my life and that no one else could touch it. My gosh the first time I saw your cock I thought, 'How in the world will I ever fit that in my mouth or pussy?' I've loved fitting and stretching myself to accommodate it." She lovingly traced his flaccid cock, which gave an interested twitch, and leaned over to give him a chaste kiss before continuing.  "Having said that, I don't care what age does to your body, I will still love ye with the ferocity of a thousand burning suns because of what is in here and here." At that moment she pointed at his head and heart. "You are the most kind, generous, humble man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. You have willingly put your life on the line for members of this crew more times than I care to remember. In fact, I am sure you have given me these few gray hairs, although Jim likes to claim they are his. Your brain continues to awe and inspire me - you have improved the efficiency of ships across this universe. YOU and ONLY YOU have done that. Yet, your humility and willingness to learn still amazes me. Most men and women who have achieved what you have would be more than willing to sit back and enjoy the praise but not you! You still learn, grow, seek out advice and become better. So, don't for a minute think that I would want anyone else in this world but you! I have had my chance at others before and after I've met you but they pale in comparison to what I have when I come home to after every shift. So don't you dare disparage yourself like that again, I have chosen you and I do not regret that choice for one second." She looked at him as if daring him to disagree with her.

With tears streaming down his face he asked, "Are ye quite done?"

She nodded and responded with a line from one of their favorite Christmas movies, "As long as ye are done being a cotton headed ninny muggins!"

"Aye lass that I am - now come here so I can kiss ye." They spent the rest of the night worshiping each other's bodies.
