They sat in the corner of the mess hall, eating their supper, and Maggie couldn't help but give this place a sad once over. They had a little over a month left, and she knew life would be radically different once they stepped off the Enterprise. Both she and Monty had been offered the lead positions in the psychology and engineering departments at the Academy in San Francisco once the Enterprise docked. Both had accepted the positions, knowing it would challenge them, not knowing how long they could keep their feet on solid ground. Both were born wanderers.
Monty took hold of her hand and queried, "Penny for your thoughts lass?" She responded, with a sad smile, "Oh just looking around for one of the last times. I know our lives will be so different when we dock. I've been on this ship for the past nine years. This is where I spread my wings as a counselor and came into my own. It's where I met my soulmate," at this she lifted his hand to give it a kiss, "My life has changed so much on this ship and I cannot imagine leaving her behind." Monty gave her a sly grin, "Ach maybe I should be worried now that I'll lose ye to this fine ship." She grinned and laughed, her mood lifting.
After a couple minutes of silence where the only sound was the clinking of silverware on plates, Monty asked, "Lass, do ye remember our first date?" Maggie nodded and Monty continued, "We sat at this exact table, ye ordered salmon, and we talked until the wee hours of the morning. I knew then I was lost. " Maggie's eyes filled with tears at the fact that he remembered that first night together. Before she realized what he was doing, he was down on one knee opening a box, and asking "Maggie Charlotte Crawford, will ye do me the honor of becoming my wife?" Not trusting herself to speak, Maggie nodded her head vigorously as Monty slid the ring on her finger, and got up to give her a deep, passionate kiss where their tongues fought for dominance. Before it could be taken much further, from across the room Leonard yelled out, "You two! Get a room! We didn't ask for a show with our dinner!" They broke their kiss, leaned their foreheads against each other and huffed out a laugh. They got up hand in hand to join Len, Jim and Spock at their table where they were peppered with questions.
That evening as they sat in their quarters, after they had called their families to announce the news, they sat quietly talking on their couch, a tumbler of scotch in their hands. "Monty, I've been thinking...I've never really wanted a big wedding at all. I'm not like my siblings who wanted a big party after their weddings, I just want something simple, quiet, with the four or five people I trust most around me. This is both of our weddings, and we are only going to have one, so obviously I want and need your approval for this but here is what I am thinking. Talos IV is on our way back to earth...I would love it if we could get married there, with just you, me, Len, Jim, Spock, Uhura, Una and Chris. Jim could marry us." By the end of her little speech Maggie had been going faster and quieter, eventually looking down at her tumbler of scotch, too nervous to look Monty in the eye. Monty put a finger under her chin and slowly lifted her head up until her eyes met his. "Lassy, that is the most splendid idea I've yet heard. I would love that." He leaned forward, gave her a chaste kiss and said, with a wink and a smile, "Now all we have to do is ask Jim and make sure his head doesn't swell too much." Maggie threw her head back and laughed, feeling lighter than air.
A few nights later, they had Len, Spock, Jim, and Uhura over for dinner in their quarters. After they had eaten dinner, they grabbed their drinks to go sit in the seating area. While they were talking, Maggie pulled Jim over to the side. "How can I help Magpie?" Jim asked with a glint in his eye. Maggie took another drink, then looked Jim in the eye. "Jim, you know Monty and I want to get married before we disembark the Enterprise. So I'm not sure how to ask you about this...we, okay really me but Monty agreed to this plan as well, have a somewhat big favor to ask of you." Jim raised an eyebrow at this statement. "We were wondering if we could stop off at Talos IV to get married," Jim's eyebrow went higher, mimicking his Vulcan husband. Maggie rushed on, "I know that would be incredibly hard on you and it's truly alright if you refused, honest. I've always wanted a small wedding, and I would love it if it was just you, Len, Spock, Una, Uhura and Chris at the wedding. I would love it if you could marry me and Monty. We just want those that are closest to us, and ye six are it." Maggie looked at him with worried eyes, petrified he would say no. Jim put down his drink, and took both of Maggie's hands in his. "Maggie, I would be honored. It will be incredibly hard to see Chris but I know he is very well taken care of and I am doing what he's asked me too, plus I have two very strong willed men who have my back. Of course I'll marry you and Monty, it would be my honor. I'll let Starfleet know of our slight deviation before we arrive back to dry dock on earth. " Maggie, with tears in her eyes, gave Jim a bear hug whispering, "Thank you Jim, oh thank you!"
Maggie went over to Monty grabbing his hand and with a smile she said, "Jim said yes! You're stuck with me now!" Monty gave her a deep kiss and responded, " I can think of nothing better."The End
