A/N: Not me using terrible plot writing to put the main character in a different body during this episode-

Late Winter, 1000 A.D.

Keira sat on a log, watching over the frozen lake as the night fell. She notice a figure moving along the ice, and saw a small fawn sliding across the lake, and a worried doe mother watching from the riverbank. Keira stood up and slid onto the ice, momentarily wobbling before gaining her balance.

"Hello, little one," she said in a sweet tone, gently petting the fawn. The mother made a worried sound for a moment, and Keira smiled warmly at her. "It's ok. Do you need help?"

The doe bowed her head, realizing the girl in front of her child was a servant of nature.

Keira closed her eyes and held out her hand. "Iter," she muttered. Her Latin word caused the ice to turn to dirt in a small path over where the two stood, spanning from there to the riverbank where the mother was. The fawn carefully walked over to her mother, who bowed once more in gratitude. Keira smiled proudly, turning back to her side of the river as her magical path turned back into ice.

Suddenly, a yell of pain filled the night, and Keira looked around and picked up a stick.

"Incendia," she muttered, turning the stick into a torch and making her way towards the sound. More pained cries led her to her elder brother Niklaus, who was pinned to a tree with a familiar sword. "Nik!" she exclaimed, panicked.

"What are you doing out here," Niklaus replied, in pain but worried. "Where is your coat! It's freezing out here!"

Keira set her torch and two more sticks around them. "Phesmatos, Lux, Incendia," she muttered. "Not anymore it's not," she motioned to the fires. "What happened!?! Is that father's sword?"

"I-"

"Never mind," Keira said, pulling the sword out as her brother yelled out. Recognizing the plants nearby, Keira picked up a bundle of herbs and pressed them against her brothers wound. Realizing she could not heal the wound on her own, she suddenly looked up, drew a circle in the dirt with a stick, and wrote down three letters, all from the Runic alphabet- 'ᛖᛋᚦᛖᚱ,' before picking up a rather sharp rock and slitting her hand, pouring blood over the letters and muttering a few words in Latin.

A few moments later, their mother came running out to where the two were.

"Tell me what happened!" Esther asked, putting a hand over her daughters and pressing the herbs harder as Keira muttered a spell to take the pain away.

"I challenged him," Niklaus said, gasping in pain.

"What were you thinking?" asked a very worried Esther.

"I thought if I could just best him, just once, he would see that I am worthy."

Esther was frantic. "You need to hold still so I can heal you. Daughter, run along and fetch my grimoire!"

End Flashback

"It is times like this I'm really glad I never knew my mother," Hayley said, standing on the balcony of Klaus's room with the latter.

"We have enough enemies here. And now, the war for our home is to be fought against my own family," he replied.

"Your wretched mother and her disciples tried to put a carving knife through our baby's heart. I will happily add to the body count," Hayley said, angry as Elijah and Keira walked out with them.
