Hailey's POV:
There was rarely a time where Charlie wasn't in the frontal lobe of my brain; his sparkling blue eyes clear in my mind. We were an unseparated pair, with few people in our inter circle that I allowed close to us.
It was hard to earn my trust but it wasn't impossible.
One of the said people that I never had to doubt, was Avery. She was an angel in disguise, despite always claiming she was more of a sinner than a saint. Whatever the case was, and despite how she treats others, she always has a gentle hand whenever she was interacting with Charlie and I.
That's why I wasn't bother when I saw Avery lightly grabbed Charlie's neck when she was trying to wash his hair as he played with his legos. She was trying to get Charlie to drop his legos for a moment so she could get the shampoo out of his hair but Charlie refused, continuing to keep his head down.
It took me sternly talking to him as I finished up my eye makeup so he would look up for a second.
"I don't understand why he refuses to listen to me, I practically raise the kid too," Avery mumbled as she quickly tended to Charlie's hair.
"There's always one parent the kids refuse to listen too," I responded as I looked at the pair through the mirror.
"Yeah well I hope that makes me the fun parent than. Charlie, let go of the legos."
"But they're drowning!"
"They're toys."
"They're my friends!" Charlie exclaimed as he splashed the water.
"Charlie enough," I said, turning to look at him.
Unlike the last time with Riley, Charlie was completely nude with the exception of a small black towel that laid on his lap that was meant for his usages. Unfortunately, with the addition to his new toys during bath time, he didn't acknowledge it at all.
"Charlie that towel isn't just for decoration," I reminded him as I walked over to the tub.
Squatting down, I leaned forward and removed the legos from the water that Charlie was reaching for, placing in his hand the small towel. Gently grabbing Charlie chin, I made him look at me.
"Charlie, mommy is going out so I need you on your best behavior okay? That starts with you going ahead and cleaning yourself and letting Avery finish up her part okay?"
Pouting slightly, Charlie nodded his head as he gripped the towel.
"Okay, when you come back?"
"Better have her home by 10, your mommy also has a curfew," Avery responded.
Rolling my eyes, I stood back up as I reached for my cellphone that was in my pocket. I had asked Riley not to ring the door bell but instead to text me when she got here, as to not tip off Charlie that she was coming over. It was one thing for me to go out, but it was another thing to go out with someone Charlie considered a friend.
"Did the giant finally text you?" Avery asked.
"Why do you insist on calling her that?" I mumbled as I responded to Riley's text, telling me she was outside.
"Well, do you want me to say her name with bug eye here?"
"Hey! That's not nice! Mommy, Avery's being mean!"
"You can be so subtle. Baby you have beautiful eyes, Avery's just jealous," I commented, as I shoved Avery's softly.
"I never said he didn't have beautiful eyes I just said their buggy," Avery said.
