"Melody..... What do you think death feels like?" whispered Evelyn. "I don't know, but if I die, I'll find a way to tell you!" Melody whispered back. Melody and Eveltn resumed playing eith their paper dolls, but spramg out of bed when they heard the front door open. "Momma!!" cried Evelyn rushing for Sam as Melody tried and failed to sync her leg with Evelyn's. "Hey kiddos!" Sam said, they looked like they had been crying. "Well I guess I should start saying kiddo now, shouldn't I?" they asked, a sorrowful note in their voice. Melody and Evelyn looked sadly at their mother, it was clear that Sam didn't want them to get seperated, but they didnt have a say. Rose had been harsh ever since Evelyn and Melody gained consciousness, she never let Sam have says in massive things, like the twins surgery. The girls hugged their mother. Neither of them knew which one would be dying, but they had to make their last gesture a comforting one. Sam wrapped their arms around the girls and sobbed. They grasped the girls tightly, and it felt like they might never let go of them. Sam was holding them so tightly that Melody was pretty sure they were holding onto the girls in a hopes that if they held them close enough they'd never have to go into the operating room.
After several minutes of Sam crying, they finally let go. "I'm so sorry," they whispered, "I shouldn't have cried like that, especially when I just want your last moments with me to be happy," they wiped a tear off their cheek. Melody and Evelyn couldn't speak, they both felt like their throats were filling witg pebbles. When Melody made an attempt to speak, she just broke into tears. Both Evelyn and Sam made to comfort her but Mel just shook her head. "Can- Can we get- Can we watch a movie?" she managed to stutter out through her tears. Sam nodded and stood up, "Ofcourse Melody! I'll find us a movie!" they said with false comfort in their voice. Evelyn and Melody made their way over to the couch and climbed on. "Mom, can we watch prisoner of azkebab?" asked Evelyn. "Evelyn for gods sake, its Azkaban!" Melody said crossly. Sam laughed and pulled POA out of its case and put it in tue DVD player. A while into the movie, Melody could feel Evelyns head go limp against hers. Melody smiled briefly and held Evelyn's hand, falling asleep soon after.
