ACE'S POV
I smiled at Olivia as we stepped out of the house. I had to walk her to her car but I also had a few things to say to her regarding what happened earlier. I was low-key happy Maya said that. As a matter of fact, I wanted to marry Olivia so bad. Too soon I know, but you can't stop the heart from craving what it wants, and what my heart wanted was her. I was in love with her and it was beyond my control. "Livy?" I called out as we walked slowly to her car. It was a chilly night and I was glad we both had jackets so no one was going to freeze to death.
She looked at me and flashed a small smile my way while raising her eyebrows.
"About what Maya said earlier..."
She burst out laughing. "Maya says a lot of crazy things. I wonder where she learns them from."
I nodded. "Indeed, she says a lot of crazy things, but 95% of the time, those things are right."
She bit her lip and nodded in agreement.
"You know I like you, right? For some reason, I'm crazy about you. I don't know why I love you this much and the funny thing is, I don't even want to know. I want it to be like this forever. I have no reason for loving you and don't want to have a reason for that either. I just want to stay madly in love with you."
She placed those tiny feminine palms on my chest. "That'd be nice, Ace. I love you too but what happened earlier fell under the 5% of things that Maya says which aren't right."
That stung. I thought we were on the same page. "Why would you say something like that?"
She looked away and I could see the hurt that flashed through her eyes.
I used my fingers to make her look at me. "I won't judge you, Olivia, you could be honest with me. Do you not want to be with me because there's someone else, maybe?" I asked trying to look into her eyes. "Or don't you find me decent enough?"
She sighed. "That's not it Ace, there's no one else. I'm too busy to entertain two guys at the same time. I'm not that kind of woman. I have standards so never insult me like that."
I shut my eyes in embarrassment. "I didn't mean it like that. I'm sorry. I would never insult you. I just felt a little sad that you think Maya was wrong."
She nodded. "I hate to admit it but she was. I cannot be her mom." She said and I could feel the sadness in her voice.
I placed my palm on her cheek. "Can you tell me why?" I asked softly.
She flashed me a sad smile. "Some things are best left unsaid."
Was she refusing because I wasn't rich enough for her? I wasn't in her class? I nodded in understanding. "I'll walk you to your car," I said and started walking towards her car. I was hurt. I wanted this woman, I loved her. I was open to her although I had so many skeletons in my closet. And I just wanted her to be the same to me. Be open. I wasn't going to judge. Not now, not ever. When I reached the car, I opened the door for her. She stood behind me while looking at her feet. I bent a little and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Let me know when you get home. I love you." I told her and she nodded before getting into the car. I shut the door and watched her driver drive away before walking back to my house.
******
It was a day before Christmas and I felt a little stronger and better, so I decided to go to the restaurant to get my mind off things. When Olivia got home, she made me know she was safe but when I texted and called the next day, she wouldn't return my calls or messages. Her company was closed for the holiday and the butler wouldn't let me into her house when I went over to check up on her. He said something about 'Miss Harrison not wanting to be disturbed. So technically, I was bugging her. It had been a while since I felt this hurt and humiliated. The last time was when Juliette had walked away. It broke my heart. Now, Olivia felt like I was disturbing her.
