I must have looked like a kicked puppy when I looked up at Isaac. He sighs and guides me into the living room and sits me down on the couch.

“Mace, I'm not really sure how to explain this, so you'll just have to work with me. I don't know much at all, but I'll tell you everything that I do know.” I nod and he starts

“I am so so so sorry Mace, I didn't want you to go through this.”

I smile slightly and gesture for him to continue.

“Well first of all, these,” he points at is eyes “are not contacts.”

“What I am, and what you seem to be, are vampires. When you become a vampire, all of your senses are heightened. You hear, smell, and see a billion times better than humans. We live off of human blood, that's why our eyes are red. We are insanely strong, and seemingly invincible. We are all extremely gifted in the looks department. We don't sleep, we don't eat. Trust me I tried, and you barf it up later, really crappy experience.”

He sighs

“Oh, and we sparkle in the sun. You'll get weird looks when that happens”

It looks as if a light bulb goes off in his head when he says

“And from what I've heard, some vampires get special abilities when they change. Mine seems to be persuasion. I was pretty persuasive when I was human, so that ability became heightened when I changed. I think that's how it works.”

I'm stunned into silence. It's like my brain has been running in overdrive and just stopped. I'm completely blank. I manage to croak out one question.

“How?”

Isaac looks confused for a moment before he answers

“The first weekend of our trip, I got pissed at the guys and decided to take a walk to one of the beaches at 3 in the morning. I was taking a shortcut through an alley when some chick walked up to me and started flirting with me. She was leaning in like she was going to whisper something into my ear, but instead she bit me. She drank some of my blood, and left without turning back.” He grimaces and turns to show me his right shoulder. I can make out the faint bite marks in his skin.

I scratch my head, puzzled

“Well now I know how you changed, but how did I? You're the only one who could have done it. And why aren't my eyes red like yours, or my skin not pale? I look more like a freak human than a vampire from the way it sounds.” I look at him pointedly.

“That's what confuses me. I honestly don't know. The only way I could have done it was” He cuts off abruptly.

“Was what?” I ask impatiently.

He whispered it so softly that without my now super awesome hearing, I wouldn't have heard him.

“In my sleep”

Those three words sent me into silence again.

“Take off your shirt for a sec” He says quickly

I hesitate “I really don't think-”

“I don't want to have sex right now, dork. I need to look for a bite mark.”

I blush and remove my shirt, left standing there in my blue lace bra and jeans “Sorry.”

He chuckles and begins exploring my back, I can hear a sharp intake of breath when he touches my left shoulder, right at the base of my neck.

“Macey I am so so so sorry. I didn't know that that could happen. I should have been more careful, I-”

I cut him off with a kiss. “It's okay Isaac, I know you didn't mean to. At least we really are each others forever now.”

He smiles and returns the kiss “I could get used to that.”

“Hey Isaac?” I look up at him

“Hmm?”

“If we need blood, human blood, to survive, how are we going to get that?”

He smirks “I volunteered at the blood bank downtown before I came home. I have the job of handling the blood bags and making sure that they're accounted for.”
