Hours have passed. You're now mounted atop Cyrus, stationed between Hange and Erwin as their troops zoom into the woods in ODM gear. Miche and the blonde sisters are already deep in the forest, but the other nurses wait behind you, prepared to take further orders.
"They look incredible." You're awestruck by the birds of men darting between tree trunks, moving to and fro with the elegant finesse of talented flyers. Hisses and fizzes of fired anchors and expelling gasses fill the air, the sounds of the flock echoing around you.
"They are, aren't they?" Hange takes genuine pride in their troops. "Where's our superstar, Erwin?"
"Don't call me that," Levi berates from the rear of your group. Heads turn to see him approach on foot, already equipped with ODM gear.
"Ah, Levi!" Hange gestures for the horse riders to move for him.
Levi stalks through the nurses, stopping between you and Erwin. "I'm here," he announces plainly.
"I'm glad you came," Erwin says. "There're targets deep in the woods, if you'd like to practice. Hange's team set them up earlier."
"Hm." Levi's eyes dart to you, then to the trees. "Fine. I'll go."
"Thank you, Levi."
Levi doesn't say anything—or he can't think of anything to say—as he takes a few steps forward. Beside you, Hange lightly taps your shoulder.
"Get ready," they whisper.
Erwin hears. "Hange," he warns darkly.
Levi grips the controls for his gear as he scans the trees above him. He braces his feet on the ground steadily before pushing off, gaining a running start before simultaneously leaping and firing his dual anchors. They penetrate separate thick trunks, and a quick operation of their controls reels the user towards them and sends him flying with gas exhaust in his wake.
"Ha! He's off!" Hange exclaims. "Let's go, Supervisor! No time to waste!" They snap their reins and charge ahead, galvanizing you to follow in a heartbeat. Cyrus accelerates to a quick gallop as fast as he can, your horse excited to follow Hange into the forest.
"Hange!" Erwin shouts from behind you, but you're too enthralled by Hange and excited by Levi to realize his orders probably take priority.
You're sprinting alongside Hange, your head stuck upward to watch Levi. This is why you came here, after all. You aren't going to pass up the chance to witness the marvel you've been learning about. It's time to watch him perform.
"Don't slow down!" Hange shouts. "He's quick!"
You glance at them, and by the time you look back at the trees you've lost track of Levi. The wind whips across your ears, barely allowing you to hear the zip of wires in the distance. Investigating, you see Levi reappear as a speck in the trees, far from your charging horse. He is quick, quicker than your galloping steed. He flies swiftly and gracefully, as though his gear is simply an extension of his body.
"Woo-hoo! Incredible!" Hange hollers, and you're tempted to do the same. The thrill of the sprint is exhilarating enough, but watching this natural aviator swing through the trees is a magnificent sight to behold.
Cyrus is catching up in a thundering streak, allowing you to be nearly underneath the soaring Levi. Your subject releases his anchors from two points before firing again, zipping forward in the blink of an eye. He takes the opportunity to jam his hilts into the opposite blades, affixing a sword to either handle before unsheathing both. The steel glistens beautifully, wielded in his hands with expert dexterity. He flips one blade to a reverse grip, a maneuver your inexperienced mind can't even process the logistics of.
