Chapter 4

After taking a shower I got ready with a half braid half down hairstyle. I applied some kajal to my undereye line and wore some simple gold jewellery. I went downstairs towards the dining hall where I saw bhai(brother) was reading the newspaper and waiting for me for breakfast. I said as I entered the room " Thanks for waiting for me bhai. "

He put the newspaper down and said " Of course, I will wait for you. It is just two of us as father is busy meeting someone in his office. How did you sleep last night ?" I sat right in front of him and said " I slept peacefully, brother. What is for the breakfast ?" As if waiting for my cue right then Meera masi enters the room and said with her motherly smile on her face " I made your favourite poha with sev and chai for you." She serves me and bhai with big portions of food. The poha was smelling mouth-watering. I ate a spoonful of it while thinking ' It tests just as delicious as it did 2 years ago. I missed it so much in London.'

 I said with a big smile on my face " Masi I think you are a witch because you have magic in your hands. You know I tried so many times to make this in London but I can never make it as tasteful as you. What is the secret Masi ?"

 Masi had mischievous in her eyes and said with playful giggling " A magician will never reveal her secrets beti. Ohh I forgot fruits in the kitchen." She leaves the room and comes back with a plat of different chopped fruits. She says while serving me more food " Now you have to eat more look how thin you have got."

I whined a bit while saying " Masi I think you need glasses now you are getting old. I am not that thin." My bhai (brother) laughs at the scene and said " I think you are right Sonal. Masi does need new glasses because look at you, You look like a hippo's baby." I yelled a bit at him " If I am hippo's baby then you are elephant's baby." Bhai was going to say something but Masi interrupted him saying " Stop fighting on your first day back and start eating. You can fight later." All of this is giving me a nostalgic feeling right now. We then looked at each other and decided we will finish this quarreling later and started talking about random things.

While we were eating I thought Suryavardhan uncle likes my sabudana khichdi a lot so I will make it for him. I asked Masi " Masi do we have all ingredients required to make sabudana khichdi ? I want to make it for Suryavardhan uncle as he likes it ." Masi replied, " Yes, beta we have all the ingredients." Right then bhai said, " Ohh great he gets to eat your cooking, what about me?" I looked at him saying " Don't be childish bhai. I will make some of the recipes I learned in London later. Ok?" He replied while getting up " Ok, now I have work to do so I will leave. Bye, sister see you when you get back." I said with a small wave " Bye bhai. Have a good day." He said while leaving the room " You too Sonal."
