Rose's POV

School is a strange environment for me, mainly because I have an interpreter that followes me from class to class; that way I could fully be apart of the class but also because some people act like I'm not deaf and treat me like a normal human being and others...not so much. Some of these kids think because I'm deaf, I'm stupid which I'm not I have good grades, definitely not straight A's good but all above D's. Every day seems the same too like I'm in some kind of weird loop.

1st period: Chemistry, the teacher is always making some kind of mess.

2nd period: Drama, seems pointless but it was the easiest extracurricular they had and I mainly just make the props.

3rd period: History, the world is horrible and this guy tells us like it's our fault.

4th period: Yearbook, favorite class by far this year. All I do is take pictures and proof read other people pages.

5th: Lunch, 2nd favorite because I get to see my two best friends Esme and Darren and I don't have my interpreter which is always great.

6th period: Home Ec, least favorite class and only because she made us do that stupid plastic baby thing and I failed because I couldn't hear it cry.

7th period: Gym class, sucks butt. Enough said.

Finally, time to go home. As I was pulling my sweater back on I felt someone tap on my shoulder, I turned around to see it was Mrs.Fisher, the girls gym teacher.

"Do you need something?" I asked, she was staring at me like I had been dead for a year it was freaking me out.

"The office just dropped this off for you" She paused extending an envelope toward me.

"It's from your dad"

My jaw dropped. What did she just tell me? This envelope was from my dad? I grabbed it from her with a bit to much force, picked up my bag and ran through the hallways looking for Esme or Darren, my vision was getting blurry as tears of excitement and happiness pooled in my eyes. My vision was to blurry and I ran into someone and knocked us both back when I cleared my vision to see who it was I seen Esme looking at me absolutely shocked that I had knocked her down. Not that it was hard given her size.

"I'm happy to go home too but I ain't excited enough to knock people out" Her shoulders bounced as she giggled.

I frantically tried to turn the note towards her but I was so excited I dropped it and lucky for me it landed face up and she seen what the envelope had written on it.

To my wonderful daughter, Rose Cooper
From Jackson Cooper

My dad's name. His handwriting. My proof he's not dead. Right here on the hallway floor. She looked between me and the letter looking like she was more surprised than I was.

"Open it" She scooped the letter off the floor, handed it to me, helped me up off the floor and moved toward the lockers so we wouldn't get crushed by foot traffic. I'm nervous. Part of me doesn't want to open it incase it had some horrible news inside but everything else in me is telling me to open it like I'm 5 years old on christmas morning.

"What if it's his will and he's dead and the detective sent me this?" I asked, my anxiety getting the best of me.

"Do you want me to open it?" Esme suggested, great I could read her expressions and if it's bad I can prepare. I slowly handed the letter over and she gave me one last sympathetic look before tearing the letter open. She scanned it and I watched as her eyes moved left to right then a smile crept it's way to her face.
