Rose's POV
It's been 2 days since my dad was declared missing. Well it's been 2 weeks since he actually went missing but everyone thought he was on one of his business trips and after my neighbors realized he hadn't come home, they called the cops. My dad always took these business trips because he was a CEO's right-hand man, his business trips typically only lasted for a week maybe and he was always excited to come home to me. I was all he had left after my mom died giving birth to me, he always said I reminded him of mom in every way possible, I sometimes wish that I would've gotten to meet her espically since I have her "attitude" as my dad says.
I pushed myself up off the couch and turned off the TV, I never really enjoyed television after what happened, it was the worst reminder that I couldn't hear anymore. I walked over to the mirror that hung by the front door and took a long look at myself; I wondered if I really did look like my mom I wondered if she was 5 foot 5 with brown hair barley down past her boobs, I wondered if my grey eyes matched hers and I found myself wondering if her body looked like my own. Slim, but still full in the right places like my thighs, butt and even a small bit of belly. I wondered if she would think I'm as beautiful as dad says I am, don't get me wrong I am beautiful I just wonder these things. That's all you can do when your world is dead silent.
I stood there for what felt like minutes and felt my stomach growl. I looked at the time on my phone [7:00 p.m]. Definitely time for dinner, I took a deep breath and turned away from the mirror and headed for the kitchen, everything felt empty and even more quiet then it already would've been, I guess it was the mentality of knowing that only I occupied the two story house with the exception of the in and out going of my neighbors, my family hasn't even come to see me yet but I've gotten a few "how are you?" and "Sorry for your loss" messages from my grandparents, I hate when I recieve the second message. Dad's not dead, just missing. He can't be dead. Dad is not dead.
I finished making my dinner and decided I would eat outside on the porch since it's my favorite time of year. Fall. Everything was so beautiful and you didn't need to hear it to admire it, plus it was the most colorful of the seasons and had Halloween! My family loved halloween and I bared that tradition with pride and my dad transformed the house to look like a haunted house every year! As I was looking out at the street I noticed a strange black car that I've never seen before, maybe they're a visitor of a different house? Strange it was parked out front though, I decided to play it safe and walk across my yard to the neighboring family and ring their doorbell. They answered almost immediately like they always do, I pointed out to the car in front of my house and shrugged my shoulders indicating I had no idea who the car belonged to, they both looked out and the lady pulled out her phone.
"Do you know who that is?" She typed. Apparently I failed at my communication attempt.
I took out my own phone and replied
"No, I was hoping it was a friend of yours?""Not us dear, sorry. Do you want Darren to go out and see if someone is inside?"
Ahhh yes, Darren, their son. The star quarterback and he very tightly held the stereotype of that title but he was still kind to everyone.
"If he doesn't mind" The woman turned to hollar at her son and he showed up in the doorway soon after.
"Hello" He signed, after the accident he took the time to teach himself and a few others at school sign language, it was really sweet and it meant a lot to me.
"Hello Darren" I signed back and he turned to his mother to listen to her words, turned back to me and looked past me to the car and headed straight out with a pat on my head (his way of reminding me I'm shorter than him)
I seen him walk over, knock on the window and bend down. It looked like he was pointing in a few different ways, almost like he was giving directions and then he stood, took a step back as the car pulled away, waved and walked away from where the vehicle was and back onto his porch.
"They were lost but they're leaving now" he signed to me
"Thank you" I replied
"No problem hun" he grinned and walked back inside and I turned to go back to my own porch and finish my dinner.
It was nice to have people like Darren around and he often came over with baked goods his mother made for me, they were a sweet family and I might've had the slightest crush on Darren but I would never tell him that obviously. Looking at the time once again it was 9:22 p.m and I figured it would be a good enough time to head to bed, I finished my dinner, went inside and washed my dishes then headed up to my bedroom and laid there hoping I would be woken up by my dad in the morning.
