2. Mixed Feelings

Ram(teary-eyed): Priyaaaaaaaaa! Helppppppp! Pleaseeeeee helpppp! Someone please open the damn gate!!!
3-4 officers came immediately hearing Ram's panic stricken voice and opened the gate. They entered and following them Ram also entered. He took Priya's head in his lap and started shaking her a little. They carried her to the bed.
Ram(tears flowing from his eyes continuously): Priya?? Open your eyes Priya. Please!(loudly) Someone please call the doctor!(softly)Please Priya...be okay...please...
One officer started sprinkling water on her face. But nothing happened. Priya didn't open her eyes.
Ram: Please call the doctor officer! Priya is pregnant! This is not good for her.
The Officer: This is happening for the 3rd time since she's come here. She's not well Mr. Kapoor. We've informed the doctor. She'll be here in sometime. Please don't panic. She'll be fine.
Ram went blank.
Ram: 3 times? And no one felt it important enough to tell me. What the hell is happening?
The officer: What? You were not informed? But we called you everytime Mr. Kapoor. Here is the phone number.
Ram saw it was their landline number. He frowned thinking why no one received the call or maybe no one was there or maybe they didn't tell....
The officer: No one came from your family so we called Mr. Dixit as we know he's friend of Mrs. Kapoor. He came.
Ram closed his eyes in pain.
"I'm sorry Priya for being this irresponsible towards you and....our baby. I'm sorry. I'm gonna see the end to it this time. Bass ho gaya I can't take this anymore. Lies after lies after lies! What the fuck is happening?", he thought.
Ram was caressing Priya face, rubbing her hands continuously.
Just then the doctor came running.
Doctor: Again this happened? Oh no! Her condition is just not good. Can you please leave her? I need to examine.
Ram: Yeah yeah. I'm sorry.
He went to a side to give space to the doctor to check Priya.
The doctor started checking her. After sometime she pulled out an injection from her kit and was about to give it to Priya. That when...
Ram: Hey hey! What are you doing? Why are you giving Priya injection?
Doctor(angrily): Who are you?
Ram: I'm Priya's husband.
Doctor(angrily): Oh! Glad to meet you Mr. Kapoor. I want to inform you your wife is pregnant. Her condition isn't very good. She's fainting a lot. I'm trying to do my job and save her life. Let me handle it.
Ram nodded knowing the doctor is right.
The doctor gave Priya the injection. Then stood up facing Ram who looked like a white stone by then.
Doctor: Mr. Kapoor, your wife has fainted 3 times till now. Her health is not good. She's too stressed out.
I'm afraid if her health continues to deteriorate we'll have to terminate her pregnancy to save her life.
Ram's tears started flowing from her eyes.
Doctor: I'm trying my best to save both the mother and child. But she's not being able to eat properly and that is making her BP to drop and that's why she faints everytime. You and your family are refusing to even visit her and she's not well. I don't know how to convince you more than this that she needs intensive care.
Ram(barely audible): I understand. Thank you Doctor. I'm gonna get her out of here soon.
Doctor: That's your choice. But I'll be good both of them that I can say. She'll be conscious in sometime. I'll take leave now.
Ram: Umm...doctor?
Doctor: Yes?
Ram: Can you please stay here till Priya is conscious? Please I request you.
Doctor frowned at first.
Doctor: Maybe I can. Okay. 5-10 minutes and she'll be awake. I'll wait outside. Call me when she wakes up.
Ram nodded.
The officer came.
Officer: Mr. Kapoor your time is over. Please take your leave. Your wife will be taken care of.
Ram(low voice but firmly): Officer Priya isn't conscious yet and you want me to leave! No I'm not leaving.
Officer: Mr. Kapoor this is jail not a 5 star hotel that you can stay for as long as you want!
Ram pulled out his phone and made a call to the SP. He explained his situation immediately and requested him to let him stay and cut the call.
Just then another officer came.
Officer 2: You can stay Mr. Kapoor.
Ram nodded.
Ram(to the officer): I can make any place a 5 star hotel if I want Officer. Don't worry I'm not gonna violate any other rules here.
The Officer left feeling irritated.
