Chapter 1: Laundry

The sun is up. Trees sway in the wind. Pokemon run wild and free.

A young girl with a lab coat awkwardly stumbles through thick trees and reaches a river. It's covered in an abundance of flowers. She sets her laundry basket down.

"It's been a while."

She took a look at her reflection in the water. It's been a long time since she's had a look at her own face.

"My finally acne cleared up.. more importantly, I need to wash my laundry."

Nagoya dumped the clothes out, scrubbing it in the river. She set aside the clean ones in a separate basket, silently admiring the calm serenity that was the wilderness. She researched thoroughly about this spot and chose to live here because of the peacefulnesses. No aggressive Pokémon, a relatively good connection to cellular data, fresh running water and plenty of food in the wild. Of course, she always just orders, but it's nice to have the security of food always being around. It's probably an incredible hassle for the delivery-man to locate her lab, which is why she always tips a generous amount. She's pretty sure they still hate her guts though.

"And, done. Clean clothes."

She checks around to see if anyone is looking (despite it being incredibly unlikely) and takes a sniff of her washed clothes. The scent of detergent is comforting.

"Mmm.."

She snapped out of it, hurriedly hanging her clothes onto a rope she set up. She was a bit afraid they wouldn't dry since the trees blocked the sun quite a bit. But she was sure today would be the absolute perfect weather for drying. Despite being cautious of everything, she had faith in her own research and held her hopes high.

After finishing, she laid down on the ground, the soft grass cushioning her back. She stared up into the sky, admiring the beauty of it. It was completely different from just looking at a picture, just being there in-person made it so much more vivid.

She sat in silence, listening closely to the forest sounds. From the occasional cry of a flock of Starly, to the sound of moving water.

She appreciated the little things that didn't really mean anything.

Now.. what to do? Oh! She almost forgot. She found a fishing rod in her storage room while cleaning. It still looked usable so she brought it out. The old owner of the lab must've left it there. Hopefully he doesn't mind me borrowing it.

She tests out the fishing line. Yep! It's secure. She tossed it line into the river, waiting for bite.

...

......

Nothing.

Well that only made sense. It's only been a few minutes. Not only that, most Magikarp are too weak to live in fast moving waters so they choose to peacefully live downstream. She envied them in a way.

But being idle constantly ironically gets tiring too.

"Maybe I should travel around Sinnoh. I have enough money to do so."

Deep down, she admired trainers and the freedom they had. Her mother was a trainer and she loved watching her on T.V when she was a child. Her father encouraged her not to follow her mothers path. Realistically, being a trainer wasn't a stable job. You were practically homeless.

Food wasn't guaranteed, water wasn't either. Yet so many young kids are sent to become trainers at such an early age. Nagoya is currently twenty-two. She was still in her early twenties yet lives an incredibly healthy lifestyle. She works out regularly, although at home, picks proper meals, supplements, takes care of her hygiene and cleans around the lab frequently. She's afraid of dying, more so the pain of it. She wants to live a comfortable long life in perfect condition at all times. Being a decrepit old lady who can't even get out of bed is one of her greatest fears.

The sudden yank of the fishing rod snaps her back into reality. Did she space out again?

"This thing is strong! Hurghhh!"

The wild Magikarp is yanked through the air, flopping around as soon as it hits the ground.

She catches her breath.

"I've caught.. huff.. you.." She whispers under her breath.

She quickly filled her bucket with water, placing the Magikarp inside. It flopped around violently but she managed to place it inside. It slowly swam in circles, possibly a bit confused. She couldn't help but laugh at the creature. It was so simple-minded and yet lived such a nice life.

"Haha! Your so cute.."

She playfully splashed the surface of the water. The Magikarp didn't seem to understand what was going on and bobbed it's head above the water mindlessly.

She looked up and remembered her clothes were still up. Not only that, the sun was setting. She checked them.

Dry!

She happily folded them back into her basket. Along with them, she now had a new pet.

As she made her way through the thick forest, she paid extra care in the bucket that contained her Magikarp.

A small lake. It's calm and empty other then the few lotuses floating on the water. She released it and it quickly sped around the pond. It seemed pleased that it finally returned to a bigger body of water.

The pond was very close to her lab. She didn't really have necessities to take care of a Magikarp. So this was the best option to keep him. While still not making it miserable.

She hurried back home and unlocked the door to her laboratory.

Ahhh..

Nothing beats going home after a long day. Her robotic caretaker reacted to the door opening and began to speak.

"Professor, your bath is 32 °C. Please wait another two minutes for it to reach optimal temperature. I reheated your left over steak and asparagus for you. Please eat that in the meantime." A robotic voice called out.

"Air quality along with sanitation are up to standards.

Nagoya developed her caretaker to heat her bath automatically. It also makes sure the sanitation and air quality of the laboratory are suitable. She attached three separate speakers around the house to report her findings.

By this point, Nagoya was quite tired. She walked over to the table and ate her dinner. It wasn't bad, but a bit bland. She washed her plates and waited for the bath.

..
....

"The bath has reached 36 °C. You may now enter."

She opened the sliding door, undressing and hopping into her bath. She quickly washed herself, getting out of the bath in record time and drying herself off. She put on a bath robe and a pair of slippers, heading to her work quarters.

She opened her computer and began reporting on her progress. Today, she hasn't done much. So she wrote a few minor bug fixes and sent the report over.

It was late. She should probably sleep. But she still needed to do her job.

She typed away, modeling and writing possible solutions for the recent water contamination problem in Kanto.

2:30 A.M.. 3:00 A.M.. 4:00 A.M

"And.. done.. I'm going to bed."

Without any strength left in her body, she turned off her computer and slept on her office chair.

"I have changed the temperature to 25 °C, please do not catch a cold professor." Her caretaker commented.

"I think it's best you leave the house more often.. And done. It's booked. A train ticket was sent to you through Poke-mail, just scan the QR when you enter." She added.
