"Stacy!.... I'm home....."
A sweet voice called out her name.
It was Sharon. She was coming home from work.
"Stacy!... Where are you?"
She was not answering.
"Oh... The poor girl is plugged on to her earphones again..." She mumbled and marched on to her room.
The room was quite dark and the walls were decorated with graffiti and magazine pictures.. It was that of her teenage years..
She was sitting beside the bed with earphones plugged on to her ears.
"Now I know why you're not answering.." said Sharon.
She was still ignoring her.
"Enough with that!!" She pulled out her headphones forcefully.
"Sharon!"
"Don't you have little bit of responsibility? I mean... Look at your room! It's a mess!"
"Leave me alone Sharon! I'll clean it up. Go make some coffee or something.."
"Promise you're gonna clean all this up"
"Yeah, yeah I'll get to it."
"Get to it?"
"I said I'll do it Sharon! Just go..."
She left the room and Stacy slammed the door.
Stacy and Sharon are sisters, living in a small apartment in New Jersey. They were living with their mother and father like a happy family. Unfortunately, the mother died after giving birth to Stacy. Their father began drinking and gambling and forgot to look after his kids. It was Sharon who took up the role of a parent and looked after Stacy. She helped her in her studies, her projects, she encouraged her to talk about her problems. She was more than just a sister. She was her best friend.
Stacy walked out of her room and went to the kitchen.
"Where's the coffee?"
"Just a second"
"You know, you should make it by yourself someday." Sharon said, handing over the coffee to her.
"Yeah I'll do it one day"
" God knows when that day is...." Sighed Sharon.
" Yeah... Don't make fun of me.... I said I'll do it someday but today is not that day."
"Okay fine." Sighed Sharon.
After a long pause she said:
"You do realise you have to live on your own someday right... What if I'm not there to look after you?"
Stacy's face suddenly turned gloomy.
"I.... I .... can't even imagine something like that...."
"I didn't wanna make you feel bad... I just told the truth..."
"I can't believe you said that."
Sharon sat beside her and said:
"Listen, you're not a kid anymore, you're growing up. Growing up means a lot of responsibilities. You're in your senior year in highschool. You have to study to get into a good college and get a good job. Then, you have to live all by yourself. So, you need to focus on life more. That's what I meant."
"Yeah it's okay. I get it. But I don't want to live alone.."
"You have to... darling..."
"I don't want responsibilities, I don't want any job, I want you.."
" You're kidding me right...."
" I want to live with you... Forever...."
" I wish for that too.. but I have a family to look after... And someday you'll have a family too..."
" I wish we never grew up."
" Yeah... I wish too.."
Suddenly, Sharon gets a phone call...
Stacy knew who it was...
"Seriously!??"
