«You need to get out now. They'll be here in less than an hour and I don't want to be late again because of you».

Nicole was standing in front of the big marble bathtub placed at the centre of the bathroom. The jasmine-scented water overflowed on the shining floor as Dea relaxed and leaned her soft big body on the red stone.

«Gimme five more minutes Nikki. Remember I got shot in the shoulder just last week? I need to rest». And mimicked a loud groan of suffering.

«You didn't seem in pain last Monday when you drove on your Cadillac to get yourself a new pair of Jimmy Choo».

«That was a small consolation for my poor situation. Plus, they were limited edition. I just had to get them».

The blonde woman crossed her arms and pointed her fiery black eyes at Dea, a small folder beating impatiently on her toned thigh.

The giantess sighed and flipped her wet hair back, blowing some bubbles off the tub. «Remind me again why we need to do this».

«Because some professional hitman tried to kill you in the middle of a celebrity-only party and disappeared without any trace. They could be still outside planning their next assault, and it's obvious you're not taking it seriously enough. That's why you need protection... The bodyguards will be here soon, so hurry up».

Dea grabbed a sponge and brushed one of her long, strong legs. «How can you be so sure I was the target? There were lots of important people in the room, you know. More important than me». Then, softer: «And more deserving of a bullet than me».

«It was a 3-inch bullet. They use them for rhinos, Dea. Who else do you think they were trying to kill with such an arsenal? You got a scratch 'cause you're bulletproof, but that poor girl's skull got smashed by a thing as big as a finger, like fuckin' gelatin».

That scene caused a disgusted expression on the brown-haired girl. «Ew Nikki, please». The angry stare she got back amused her. «Look, I feel sorry for the girl, I truly do. But I'm fine! And it was stupid for someone to think I would die from a bullet wound. Everyone knows I'm an amazon, for heaven's sake».

«Well, it's quite evident that was not the work of some random dude if they managed to follow you at Angelica's party, join the ballroom with a VIP's pass, pass unnoticed with a hunting rifle in their hands and disappear like a freaking ghost. And guess what? An innocent got killed! A poor normal human like me».

Dea chuckled. «If you're so scared for your life, why don't you take the bodyguards for yourself? I'd rather give them all to you since you might need them more than I do».

«You just don't understand...». Nicole walked around the room, visibly upset. «You have no sense of what could be dangerous for you and your career when stepping outside this house. You walk around like the world is a safe place, feeling invincible and mighty when you're made of flesh just like me and anybody else! But because you always think this is a stupid game, you don't think and care about it! But I DO!».

She spoke those last words shouting, her chest rising and lowering fast under the white satin blouse. She was trembling.

«Nikki...».

A sudden memory of the dead girl's cold body flashed in Dea's mind as she got nauseous and sick.

It could have been Nicole.

She is Dea's assistant, her counselor, and her best friend. She's like a small rocky planet orbiting its sun, following her anywhere and standing right next to her when she's in public during events.

Dea is a giantess, some kind of Wonder Woman with fast healing, super strength, sharp senses and some other sick abilities that make her superhuman. She can survive thousand of stabbings and millions of bullets. But Nicole can not.

At that moment Dea realised she wasn't the only one in danger. She met Nicole's eyes and read fear inside of them: anguish, pain.

Nicole walked and kneeled on the tub. «Tell me, D. Is it bad I want us to be safe?».

They both remained silent for a minute before Dea spoke again. «No, it's not».

«Then do this for me. Please».

Unable to face the sadness of spoken truth, the giantess lowered her head.

«Alright».

Nicole planted a big smooch on Dea's cheek. «Thank you, I know it's a hard thing for you to do. I promise it will be temporary».

They both smiled.

«I'll get ready then». Dea rose from the water, standing tall and naked in the bathtub. «Make me pretty for the boys».

Nicole sighed and chuckled. «Whatever. Just... don't overdo it».

Wrapping her dark olive-coloured body in a soft towel, Dea wiped her short hair while looking at the big mirror in the room. She saw the reflection of her friend by the door. «Nikki?».

«Mm?»

«Thank you for caring».

Nicole smiled. «Move, dummy. There ain't no time for cheesy talk on your schedule».

She then left the room, leaving Dea alone.
