It was a barely perceptible, furtive gesture that never lasted more than a handful of seconds, but which had become automatic as soon as the word pregnant appeared on the test.
It happened all the time, without her even realizing it. When she was waiting for her tea to steep, when she was walking Kitty, when she was watching TV or between two takes on a set. A reflex, as if to make sure that everything was fine, that her baby was indeed there.
The idea of a life growing inside her was still mind-blowing, but the sweet euphoria of knowing that a little being made of love, a piece of her and a piece of him, was coming into their lives, was well worth all of the nausea and soreness.
She had filled her schedule as long as her belly was not showing too much yet, and so many subterfuges were possible, at least at the beginning, so her life had not really changed. Her husband had always been overprotective of her, the staff was still adorable.
What had changed, however, was that she was never alone, never really. When her hand brushed her belly, it was because a small being was living there, invisible to everyone, and yet so present and so important to her, to them. She didn't feel it yet, occasionally joking that her stomach gurgling might be a coded message from the baby, which made Hyun Bin laugh out loud, but she imagined their baby, she imagined their child so much.
Would he have his father's dimples or his beautiful hair? His legendary sweetness or his humor? Or her smile, her eyes or her long fingers? Girl or boy ?
Her hand rested on her stomach again and she smiled, jumping slightly when another, larger, warmer hand gently rested on hers.
"How's our baby?" he whispered into her ear, hugging her from behind.
“Very fine I guess given the nausea this morning…”
He tightened his embrace, without taking his hand from hers.
"How are you feeling ?"
"Better don’t worry, the tea your mother gave me really helps…"
He nodded slowly and placed a kiss on her temple. They stayed like that, still in the evening light, their hands intertwined on the slight bump of her belly, savoring this reality, their reality. They were famous actors, they were coveted models, but at that moment, they were just one man and one woman, madly in love, and about to realize the dream of a lifetime.
